Chapter 374
Cora left and headed straight to the Traditional Medicine Center to see Jonas. He was still confined to his hospital bed, his eyes glued to his phone screen, anxiety written all over his face.
With every ticking second that Shirley remained missing, his panic spiked. The longer she was gone, the higher the chances she would fall victim to a horrific fate.
“Cora, you’re just in time. Have you found Shirley?”
“We’re still looking for her. It happened so fast, and we have next to no information to go on. We haven’t found a trace of her yet.”
“It has to be Joseph! Go confront him. Only he would know where Shirley is!”
“I was just with him before I came here,” Cora countered, defending her husband. “He’s still completely shattered over Grace’s death. He hasn’t even turned his phone on for the past two days, let alone left the Crest District. He isn’t capable of pulling off an abduction right now, and he doesn’t even have a reason to.”
“Grace is dead?”
“Yes. She was driving drunk and died in a car accident. She’s already been laid to rest, so neither she nor Joseph could have done this. It’s far more likely your own enemies are behind it.
“Belinda’s gaining more control over the Towne family, and the Zahns are hoping to carve out a piece for themselves too. You’ve been stuck in the hospital for so long that your influence is fading away. Your enemies certainly won’t let this opportunity pass. They’ll want to take you down while you’re vulnerable.”
Jonas drew in a sharp breath. Back then, when he had the backing of both the Zahns and the Townes, resources flowed freely and he felt invincible. But now that the tide had turned, his position had suddenly become incredibly perilous.
“Cora, considering everything we’ve worked on together, you have to help me.”
“Of course, I will. I’ve already deployed my team to hunt for leads. But you can’t stay here anymore. I’ll have you transferred to Jenton University Hospital so my husband can oversee your treatment. That way, you’ll have a shot at a real recovery.
“But I have one condition-whatever happened between us in the past stays in the past. You keep your mouth shut. My husband can be petty, but he’s still a doctor at heart.”
