Joseph had no idea any of that had happened. At that moment, he was busy treating a patient Yelena had brought to him.

The patient was highly respected in her husband’s family. Years ago, he had served as a powerful state official. After an accidental fall in which he struck his head, he suffered a stroke. 1

Although he had received continuous treatment, he had never fully recovered. The stroke had left him with lasting complications, including a drooping face, crossed eyes, trembling hands, and worsening memory.

Eventually, he was forced into retirement. Now, he was only 60 years old. He refused to stay in this state, leaving him depressed.

Joseph did everything he could. He was able to ease the patient’s symptoms and improve his condition, but curing him completely would require something unconventional.

After settling the patient into a ward for treatment, Joseph returned to his office with Yelena. Yelena studied Joseph’s expression before saying, “Joseph, it looked like you wanted to say something earlier but held back. Was there something you couldn’t say in front of everyone? Just tell me.”

Joseph responded, “Take someone who has lived to be 120 years old as a reference. Your relative is only in his 60s. In theory, he should still have a lifetime ahead of him. However, his brain has atrophied, and many of his organs are deteriorating.

“As things stand, the most effective treatment would be the same method the person used, which was a blood transfusion. The blood of the young carries vitality.”

Yelena sighed. “I don’t think he would ever agree to something like that.”

She knew Joseph well enough to understand that he would never suggest such a method unless he had exhausted every conventional option. The final decision would have to come from the patient’s family.

It wasn’t something she could decide herself. Someone with greater authority in her husband’s family would need to speak to Joseph directly.

If they chose blood transfusion, they probably wouldn’t do it here. It would be carried out secretly within the family. Some things could be done, but they could never be discussed publicly.

Joseph didn’t press the subject any further. Instead, they casually chatted about other matters. That evening, after the treatment session ended, Yelena took the patient home. Meanwhile, Joseph returned to the company.

Not long afterward, Cora arrived. Angrily, she showed Joseph a picture of a woman and asked, “Do you know this woman?”

Joseph had never seen the woman before. Naturally, he didn’t recognize her. Nonetheless, he disliked Cora’s attitude. He questioned, “She’s gorgeous and has a great figure. Are you planning to send her to my bed like what you did with Lacey and the others?”

Cora snapped, “In your dreams! She’s actually the one dreaming. She marched into my office and demanded I divorce you. If I refused, she threatened to come after my family and me. You’ve become quite the prize. Your medical skills are even more valuable.”

Cora didn’t keep this from Joseph. Many of the misunderstandings between them stemmed from her belief that she could handle everything herself. Since she didn’t need him, she thought that he didn’t need to know.

“What can she offer me?” Joseph asked.

Joseph had already forwarded the woman’s picture to Yelena and Peyton. He received a reply almost immediately.

The woman was Lexi Browns. She came from an influential family in another state. Her family had once belonged to an elite circle of powerful families, but after a disaster, her family had fallen from prominence. To reclaim their former status, they needed someone like Joseph.

After reading the information, Joseph asked Cora, “Why won’t you let me have this opportunity? We’ve already reached this point. What’s the point of staying together? Do you still expect me to pretend none of this ever happened?”

Cora stated, “I never did anything to betray you.”

Joseph snapped, “The moment I learned Natalie and the others aren’t my biological daughters, I lost the ability to forgive you.”

“They are your daughters,” insisted Cora.
