Hearing those words and seeing Joseph’s cold attitude, Cora sensed real danger. Even so, she refused to back down. She questioned, “Do you think you can actually do that?”

Joseph chuckled. “I can’t.”

Then, he continued, “Your mother told me more than once that no matter how hard I studied for ten years, I would never be able to imagine what generations of the Lowell family have built.

“You’re the richest person in Jenton, while I’m just a doctor with nothing to my name: Going up against your family would be like an ant trying to topple a tree.”

He gestured toward the door and added, “You’re far above someone like me. My little place is too humble to accommodate someone of your status.”

Cora insisted, “You need to come with me. Come to the Traditional Medicine Center and visit Natalie and the others.”

Joseph replied, “There’s no need. Their condition is stable. Going with you? You’re alone. Do you think you have what it takes to make me go willingly?”

He pulled out a bottle of perfume and sprayed it around the room. Within seconds, the air filled with its heavy fragrance.

Cora frowned. She knew what Joseph was doing. That perfume, when mixed with another scent, produced a foul odor that made her violently nauseous.

Joseph had used the same trick against Cora and her people before. Since she still hadn’t figured out a countermeasure, he kept using it.

At the door, Cora turned around and asked, “How did you become like this? Did someone put these ideas in your head?”

Joseph responded, “Didn’t I become like this because of you? You got involved with that man from the Towne family. Now that you see me this way, are you satisfied?”

“Everything you believe about me is a misunderstanding,” said Cora.

Joseph had no interest in arguing. He just waved Cora away.

The night passed without anything happening. The next morning, Joseph continued treating the patient from the Cooper family. Afterward, he left with Yelena for a private restaurant.

The mysterious woman who had confronted Cora the day before, Lexi, was already waiting inside.

Joseph glanced at Lexi and noticed that she looked older than her age. She was 31 years old, but her hairstyle, round face, curvy figure, and clothing style all made her look more mature.

Yelena had met Lexi before, so when Joseph asked about Lexi, Yelena could give Joseph information about Lexi. Naturally, Yelena introduced Lexi to Joseph.

All of them were adults, and the atmosphere was quite harmonious. After the meal was nearly over, Yelena tactfully excused herself, leaving Joseph and Lexi alone to talk.

Joseph got straight to the point. “My wife told me you went to see her. She thought you were incredibly rude.”

“No, my brothers will handle those matters. My only target is you. Joseph, come with me. I’ll be your woman,” said Lexi.

Brushing a lock of hair behind her ear, she continued, “I may not be as beautiful as Cora, but I’m not far behind. I’m younger than she is, and I’ll be faithful to you. Believe it or not, I’ve never been in a relationship. I’m still a virgin. If you’re with me, you’ll be my first man, and my only one.”
