Joseph felt no sympathy for Shirley. The two of them had never crossed paths before, and her habit of going back on her word had only left him with a deep sense of distaste.

That said, if Shirley could be used to provoke and retaliate against Jonas, he was more than happy to make use of her. As for Shirley saying she wanted to be with him, that was a matter for the future. It was also something that he had no intention of agreeing to.

Right now, Joseph had only one goal, which was to uncover the identity of the girls’ biological fathers and find the men Cora had taken as lovers.

He wanted to know what those men had that he didn’t.

More importantly, his attention was on Yara.

That night, after leaving the office, he quietly made his way to Skyhaven Central and entered Yara’s home.

Grace’s former subordinates were incredibly capable. Without anyone noticing, they rendered Yara and everyone

else in the house unconscious.

This time, Joseph didn’t abduct Yara. After failing to find anything useful in her room, he merely tampered with something on her unconscious body before slipping away as silently as he had come.

The next morning, Yara and the others woke up feeling as though they had slept unusually heavily. Something felt off, but since nothing appeared to be missing, they paid it little mind.

Had they installed surveillance cameras and seen Joseph entering the house, they probably would have been scared out of their wits.

Of course, they had no idea Joseph was no longer fighting alone. They underestimated him and didn’t take the proper precautions.

Most of their efforts were focused on guarding against Peyton and the other outsiders who were aggressively invading.

The next day, Joseph was surprised to receive a call from Lacey, saying she had found Marla.

Joseph said, “Don’t do anything rash. Just keep an eye on her. I’ll send people to back you up immediately.”

Joseph promptly dispatched three of Grace’s former men, instructing them to bring Marla back to Jenton at all

costs.

He believed Marla had gone to warn Natalie out of genuine concern, which made her story highly credible.

If Natalie’s biological father truly came from an influential family and was an exceptional man in his own right, then only the Zahn family fit that description.

A short while later, Arthur called, asking him to treat Edmund. Joseph declined and asked Arthur to seek out Jenna instead.

Jenna was away on vacation and was unable to return in time, but that had nothing to do with Joseph.

Besides, he had patients of his own to see that day. He needed to treat Marie and Wesley.

Marie suffered from a chronic condition brought on by old age. Joseph could not simply ignore the laws of nature.

As for Wesley, after many days of treatment, he was finally able to stand. Years of disuse had left his knees too

weak to walk, but with continued treatment, a full recovery was only a matter of time.

“Joseph, you truly are my benefactor!” Wesley stood unsteadily, drenched in sweat, yet his face was filled with excitement. For a man like him, being able to stand again was enough to feel like he could stand against the world.
