That evening, Joseph had just returned to the company when Cora arrived.

Joseph immediately asked, “If you’re not going to divorce me, what are you doing here?”

With no one else around, Cora said, “Is divorce the only thing on your mind? Aren’t the children more important?. Are you sure whatever you did was safe? I feel like Natalie and the others are getting worse.”

Joseph scoffed. “If you’re trying to trick me into coming home, save your breath. If there’s something wrong with them, take them to the hospital and get them examined instead of imagining things. I’only did what I did to keep them from being forced to give blood and to save their lives.

“Cora, if you’re willing to hand over your own flesh and blood, then sorry for meddling in things I shouldn’t have.”

Cora complained, “You make it sound as if I’m the villain. In reality, you’re the one doing terrible things, yet somehow you’re the one everyone sympathizes with.”

Everyone who knew of the DNA test all thought of her as the wicked woman who cheated on her husband. Meanwhile, Joseph gained the image of a weak husband whom she was suppressing, earning everyone’s sympathy.

Joseph scowled. “Who’s the villain here? I’ve spent all these years raising daughters who aren’t even mine. Tell me. Who’s the villain?”

Cora replied, “Why do you keep bringing that up? Is it ever going to end?”

Joseph scoffed. “If you’re tired of hearing it, then solve it. Just tell me who their biological fathers are. Who are the men you’ve been fooling around with?”

Cora shouted, “I haven’t been sleeping around! Joseph, stop slandering me!”

Her face flushed with anger, and she felt deeply insulted by his accusatory words.

Joseph spat, “Slandering you? I put the paternity test results right in front of you, and you refuse to acknowledge them.

“Cora, you’re the richest woman in Jenton, so you can bully a nobody like me. But don’t think you’ll get away with it forever. Sooner or later, you’ll pay for your arrogance, stubbornness, and promiscuity.”

Cora’s eyes widened. “Are you calling me promiscuous?”

Joseph sneered. “Are you not? You went to the hot springs with someone like Warren, and then there’s whatever happened with Jonas. That’s only what I know about. Who knows how many others there have been? Are you seriously saying you’re not promiscuous?”

Cora pointed at Joseph. “Joseph, you’re the last person who should be saying that. What about Lacey, Grace, and all the other women surrounding you? You aren’t exactly innocent yourself.”

“If you think I’m so impure, just agree to the divorce.” Joseph felt like her counterattack was nothing more than an inability to defend herself.

Cora immediately said, “Dream on. I will never divorce you!”

Joseph shook his head. “Cora, if you keep holding on to something that’s already dead, all you’ll end up with is hatred. You’ll regret this. Now, get out!”

Joseph didn’t want to see her for another second. He was deeply disappointed.
