“How can you not have any? You should have more. Stop being so stingy.” Lexi pouted.

Joseph shook his head. “I don’t have any!”

“If you won’t give me any, I’ll just take it by force.” Lexi was immediately displeased. Joseph had rejected her advances, and now he was refusing her something as trivial as a few doses of anesthetic. How was she supposed to keep a man like this under control in the future?

Joseph repeated himself. “I said I don’t have any.”

Lexi replied, “If you don’t have any, make more. If you can make one, you can make as many as you need. It’s not like you’re busy right now. Just go make some.”

Joseph said calmly, “That takes money. If you would like a custom order, I can make it. But it will cost you. Ten million dollars per dose. Give me seven million dollars upfront, and the remaining three million upon delivery.”

Lexi frowned. “That’s highway robbery!”

Naturally, she had no intention of giving Joseph money. Giving Joseph money would mean Joseph could gain power. It would be much harder for her to control him. Men with money became stronger and acted far worse.

Joseph smiled faintly. “Scarcity determines value. Besides, it’s not like you absolutely need this. You don’t have to spend that money.”

Lexi remained dissatisfied and was about to continue arguing when the phone on Joseph’s desk rang. He gestured for her to either remain quiet or leave.

Joseph answered the call.

“I’m Yelena’s brother. My wife received treatment from you before. She told me about your methods, and I have a request. I want to be able to climb up at least ten flights of stairs. Can you make it happen?”

Joseph replied flatly, “No. You should consult a specialist.”

When he hung up, he saw that Lexi still hadn’t left. So, he asked, “How’s your older brother doing?”

Lexi shrugged. “He’s the same as ever. He can’t speak, and his entire body keeps convulsing. His face is twisted as well. Is there really nothing you can do?”

Joseph answered, “I suspect he’s been poisoned. Why don’t you ask the Zahn family for an antidote? If you wait for too long, you might regret it.”

The truth was, Joseph needed Jonathan to remain unable to speak or write. As long as Jonathan couldn’t expose him, Joseph’s secret remained safe.

He had no intention of killing Jonathan. Once everything in Jenton settled down, he would personally cure Jonathan, apologize, and offer compensation.

But for now, Jonathan’s condition was extremely useful to Joseph.

Joseph glanced at Lexi, and a sudden thought crossed his mind. Should he give her the same treatment and pin the blame on the Zahns as well?

Of course, he didn’t act on the idea immediately. He merely tucked away the deeply un-doctorlike thought for another day.

Cora was annoyed. “How am I supposed to get anything out of her when she doesn’t know anything? If she were that easy to crack, you wouldn’t have handed her over to me in the first place. You couldn’t do it yourself, so what gives you the right to expect me to? You’re being unreasonable.”

Joseph was acting more and more hostile toward her. He wouldn’t even let her inside anymore.

If he refused to let her through the gate today, would he take an even more drastic step and file for divorce the next day?

She had already consulted a lawyer. If Joseph took the paternity test results to court and she failed to stop the proceedings before they formally began, there was a high probability that she would lose.
