He was the one who informed Cora that Marla had returned and suggested that she come personally. Now that Cora had successfully taken Marla from Yara, all that remained was for him to play his part and delay Yara.

Yara sneered. “Shouldn’t you go look for Cora and make sure you’re there yourself? Do you honestly think Cora will tell you the truth afterward?”

Inside, Yara was seething. She felt as though Joseph and Cora were working together against her, treating her like a pawn in their game.

“If she won’t tell me, why don’t you?” Joseph replied.

Yara said, “Because I don’t know the answer.”

Joseph scoffed. “You do know. The only question is whether you’re willing to say it.”

Joseph was becoming increasingly convinced that the biological father of Cora’s children was from the Zahn family. It was probably why Yara was so fiercely protecting him. After all, families rarely betray each other.

“Get out of my way.” Yara frowned. Something about Joseph’s gaze was unsettling. It was as if he could see straight through her.

Joseph remained where he was. Unable to force her way past him, Yara could only wait for her people to arrive. But before they did, Peyton showed up as well, ensuring that she couldn’t make a move against Joseph even if she wanted to.

Yara spat, “If it weren’t for all these outsiders backing you, you’d be nothing but trash. I could deal with you whenever I pleased. Screw you!”

Joseph laughed coldly. “By your logic, if you weren’t a Zahn, what incredible abilities would you have? What would qualify you to stand where you are today?”

Without the Zahn family’s influence, what exactly gave Yara the right to be so arrogant?

Joseph continued, “Yara, if I had your background, I would have gotten rid of you a long time ago.”

Yara snorted. “Too bad you don’t.”

She hated hearing that. Yes, she had benefited from the Zahn family’s resources, but she firmly believed her own abilities had brought her this far.

Joseph said calmly, “That’s true. I don’t.”

Still, he didn’t back down until he received a message from Cora. Just as he expected, Marla had refused to talk, and Cora didn’t want to push matters to the point of no return. So, Marla was released.
