Chapter 425

Jonas pressed the call button beside his bed. He had hired another caretaker as well, never fully intending to trust Shirley to look after him.

But there was no response. It seemed like the call button was broken.

He reached for his phone, only to realize that Shirley had taken that too.

Since Shirley refused to move and there was no one else around, he had no choice but to struggle to the bathroomy himself. By the time he returned to bed, he felt considerably better.

He said coldly, “I know you want to take my money and run off with Joseph. Dream on. I’m not dead yet.”

Shirley’s expression darkened. “So that’s how little our marriage means to you? We’ve been husband and wife all these years, and you’re willing to treat me as if you’ve never felt any affection for me.”

Jonas sneered. “So you do know that we’re husband and wife. Yet, you’re already planning to fool around with Joseph. What does that make me? I’m refusing to give you my money for your own good. If you stay faithful and take care of me, you’ll never have to worry about money.

“But if you think you can sneak around my back with another man, I’ll make sure you are left with nothing. You think I’m going to finance your little affairs? In your dreams!”

Shirley snapped. “I’m only in this situation because I was drugged, and that’s your fault! You made enemies outside and dragged me into your mess. And now you’re calling me promiscuous? Do you have no shame? I’ll ask you one last time. Are you really going to do this to me?”

Jonas scoffed. “You’re not getting a single cent from me to spend on Joseph or any other man.”

Shirley’s expression suddenly turned calm. “If that’s how heartless you want to be, then don’t blame me for what happens next.”

Then, Shirley started to smile suspiciously.

Jonas shuddered. “What are you planning to do to me? If I die, you’ll be the prime suspect. Cora will investigate you, and you’ll go to prison. You might even be sentenced to death.”

Shirley replied, “I’m not stupid. I won’t do anything but sit here and watch you, my castrated husband.”

The moment Jonas heard that, his face turned an ugly shade of red. “You’re asking for it!”

Shirley said, “Don’t get too angry. You should rest properly. I’ll bring Mia and the others over tomorrow so they can see the state you’re in for themselves. Actually, what if I accidentally post your little picture in their school group chat?”

“You bitch! I’ll kill you!” Jonas threw off the covers and stumbled out of bed, lunging at Shirley. But Shirley effortlessly sidestepped him.

He was still recovering from a serious illness and had no hope of catching her. By the time he staggered into the living room, he froze in place. On the massive 100-inch 8K television, Shirley had his photo projected.

Shirley said calmly, “This is all evidence of your domestic abuse. I’ve documented everything.”

Even now, she continued provoking him. After all, this marriage had run out of love. Only hatred remained.

That night, the two became enemies.

Several days later, the next news Cora received about Jonas was news of his death. By then, they were already burying the body.

She hurried to the cemetery, only to find that she was too late. Most of the Towne family had already left, leaving only Belinda, Shirley, and a few others behind.

After paying her respects, Cora received confirmation from her subordinates that Jonas was dead. The Towne family had deliberately kept the matter quiet, not informing any outsiders. The funeral had been conducted with minimal ceremony as well.

At the cemetery entrance, Cora stopped Belinda. “Why didn’t you tell me that something this important happened?”
