At the inpatient department, Marla spotted him first and hurried over. She grabbed his arm, trying to pull him along.

Joseph pulled his hand out of her grasp. “Who are you? Do I know you? Please keep your hands to yourself!”

“I don’t know you! Don’t get in my way!” Joseph headed for the staff elevator, scanned his card, and stepped inside.

Marla quickly got in before the doors could close and stared at him pleadingly. “I’m begging you. Please have a look at my husband. You’re the only one who can save him. Please.”

“You think begging me means I have to listen to you? Who do you think you are?”

“You’re a doctor. How can you just let someone die without helping?”

Joseph gave a cold chuckle. Now Marla was trying to guilt-trip him. Still, he ignored her and went upstairs to meet Jenna.

Jenna had initially resigned, but the Zahns brought her back. Since Edmund’s medical records couldn’t be made public, she led Joseph into her office and showed them to him.

Based on the data in the report, Joseph determined that Edmund was in critical condition. If he hadn’t been in such good health, he would have died the moment the episode occurred.

Even though Edmund had survived the episode, he was still an old man. The intense sexual activity had caused a sudden rush of blood to his brain, rupturing some capillaries in his brain.

Jenna and Arthur immediately performed the surgery. They identified the source of bleeding and stopped it, but Edmund still didn’t regain consciousness. A postoperative scan showed that there were new areas of bleeding in his brain.

Jenna and the others decided not to perform another craniotomy. They had no choice but to perform a minimally invasive procedure to treat Edmund.

Jenna then thought of Joseph’s acupuncture skills and asked him for help.
