When Cora learned what happened, she was stunned. Unlike before, she didn’t feel happy at all and was filled with worry instead.

Joseph had disappeared for several days before abruptly returning home. She couldn’t make sense of what he was up to, so she quickly set aside what she was doing and hurried home.

When Cora came face-to-face with Joseph, she noticed the fine stubble covering his shaved head. Add a jumpsuit, and he’d look like he just walked off a prison transport.

Joseph looked relaxed now, his previous hostility all but evaporated. The disgust and resentment that had burned through him over her suspected infidelity were nowhere to be found.

“Cora, when people get as rich as you, they usually prioritize their family. But you? The richer you get, the busier you get. You’ve become a slave to money,” Joseph said calmly with a faint smile.

“I beg to differ.” Bernard shot back.

“You’re right, Bernard, but my point still stands. If your goal is to enjoy the journey, you can work, make money, chase love and pleasure, and enjoy life until you grow old. In the end, we’re all moving toward the same outcome anyway-death. We can’t take money with us.”

Joseph looked at Natalie, Selena, and Kimberly before continuing, “Sometimes, we have to remind ourselves that some things matter far more than money. Things like family, love, friendship, and the bonds of gratitude.”

“Do you really think-”

Joseph immediately cut Bernard off, saying, “Of course, that’s just my opinion. But from what I see, what you really need now is a full medical checkup at the hospital, especially for your heart.

“Have you been experiencing chest tightness lately? Have you been feeling more drained, and your mental state isn’t what it used to be?

“Do you get sleepy easily while reading books and reviewing documents? These are all early signs of cardiovascular and neurological problems.”

“Got it. Tomorrow, I’ll have Dad undergo a full medical checkup.” What Joseph said became more and more alarming, and Cora didn’t dare question his expertise.

Cora told Bernard and Helen not to say anything unnecessary and had Joseph come to the study. She then asked straight up, “Why did you come home?”

“I’m planning to stay for dinner and spend the night here,” Joseph said. “I’ll tell you why later. But if you demand ) an answer right now, I’ll tell you and leave immediately.”

Seeing how guartled and wary Cora was stung Joseph deeply. Yet, keeping the bigger picture in mind, Joseph hardened his heart-whatever she felt right now was irrelevant.

Cora considered her options and decided to play along for now. She searched his eyes, but his intentions remained completely opaque.

Joseph didn’t waste time talking to Cora and went to have a chat with Natalie, Selena, and Kimberly. He even examined them and treated them.

When Cora had the chance, she went to discuss things with Bernard and Helen, but none of them could figure out what Joseph was up to. She decided to take things one step at a time.

The housekeeper at home was highly skilled, and her bodyguards were waiting outside in their cars. If anything happened, they would come in immediately as support. She was certain Joseph wouldn’t attempt anything foolish.

Indeed, Joseph didn’t do anything that crossed the line. After examining Natalie, Selena, and Kimberly and having dinner, he checked on their studies. When he realized their grades had dropped, he did not lecture them and simply offered words of encouragement.

After putting them to bed, Joseph returned to the master bedroom and saw Cora standing there, her arms folded.

She was still looking at him warily, so he said, “We’re not divorced yet. Does that mean we can’t live as husband and wife anymore? If I’m not welcome here, I’m leaving.”

“Didn’t you think I cheated on you and that I was filthy? I thought you wouldn’t touch me anymore.”

“Well, did you cheat on me?”
