Chapter 441
Joseph didn’t make his move right away. Instead, Joseph prescribed some medicine to Luke and poured Luke a glass of water. Since a female caregiver was assigned to look after Luke, Joseph stepped outside.
Joseph went to the restroom and looked around. From the clothes hanging out to dry, it was obvious that every house was occupied. In fact, on the drive up the mountain, he had seen people outside nearly every home he passed.
The houses had been built along the mountainside, wrapping around the mountain in a long chain They were all connected by a single road.
Owen lived even farther in. Security was especially tight at the moment. People were stationed at every intersection. Some looked like elderly women casually chatting in the sun, while others were the Zahn family’s bodyguards.
As a stranger, Joseph couldn’t wander around freely. When he returned after washing his hands, he happened to catch Luke reaching over to grope the caregiver’s backside. To his surprise, the caregiver didn’t seem offended in the slightest.
“What a dirty old man…” Joseph thought, unable to hide his disgust. He wondered whether he should have Peyton bring people to stage a raid. In the chaos, he could slip away unnoticed and investigate.
However, it was far too risky. What Joseph wanted to know was how many people the Zahn family still had hidden away, and which one Cora had chosen as the biological father of her children.
The caregiver brought Joseph a chair and asked him to wait outside in the courtyard. She left the door slightly ajar before going back inside to help Luke get settled for a nap.
Joseph sat down at first. After seeing that there were no surveillance cameras inside or outside the courtyard, he moved closer to the door and listened through the crack.
Sure enough, Luke was still making advances toward the caregiver. Unfortunately for him, his body wasn’t cooperating.
Like an old man wandering into a brothel, he could only look, powerless to do anything except sigh in frustration.
Judging that the caregiver would be coming back out soon, Joseph slipped away from the door and returned to where he had been sitting in the courtyard.
