Chapter 449
After Marla left, Jenna couldn’t help asking, “Why are you sending her to Yara again? What are you planning?”
Joseph answered, “There are three reasons. First, that medicine is extraordinary. I want to learn more about it. Second, Marla has been keeping Yara’s secrets all this time. She deserves something in return.
“If Yara refuses to give her the medicine or just brushes her off, it’ll drive a wedge between them. Third, I want her to stop bothering you. As long as she isn’t obsessing over finding me, I won’t risk exposing myself. You won’t have to deal with her anymore either.”
“You really know how to redirect someone’s anger,” said Jenna. She was truly sick of Marla.
Marla acted as if doctors were obligated to save every patient, as though they owed her. Jenna couldn’t stand that attitude. If it weren’t for Yara’s sake, Jenna would have already transferred Marla’s husband out of Traditional Medicine Center.
Just then, Jenna thought of something. She asked, “How did you know Edmund took that medicine too?”
Joseph didn’t answer. Instead, he questioned, “If it was something that valuable, would you have let me get anywhere near it?”
Jenna admitted, “I don’t have the authority to touch it. Only the elders can touch it.”
“You’re still guarding your family’s secrets from me. That’s expected,” stated Joseph with a grin before turning to leave.
Jenna asked, “Where are you going? I already arranged a case for you. It’s a craniotomy.”
“Are you crazy? How could someone like me perform a craniotomy? Think about who I am right now. What’s my background? What academic credentials do I have? Don’t forget. My current identity is just a useless nobody,” said Joseph.
Joseph wasn’t planning on working for Jenna for free. His current identity, Henry Jebb, was only 25 years old. Such a young doctor couldn’t lead a craniotomy. There was no way.
Without another word, he left.
Joseph didn’t put all his hopes on Jenna. After tricking her into revealing the family records, he had asked Peyton to obtain a copy. He even reached out to Yasmin for help.
Something as important as a family record was far beyond Joseph’s reach. Jenna, who wasn’t even listed in the records, rarely paid attention to it. Nevertheless, someone else was bound to have access.
