Once the biological samples arrived, Joseph began the testing process. After that, all he could do was wait for the

results.

That night, Joseph stayed at the clinic. Cora didn’t come, but Belinda and Paula did. Paula had previously undergone Joseph’s treatment. After returning home and sleeping with her husband, she had indeed become pregnant.

Belinda responded, “That name doesn’t ring a bell either. Joseph, what are you trying to find out about him?”

Joseph answered, “The fact that even you think he’s unfamiliar is exactly why I need your help. I’m not looking for anything specific. Just give me anything you can find about him.”

Joseph didn’t explain his motive, nor did he place too much hope on it. After all, Skylar was only one of the eight suspects.

Once that topic was settled, Belinda revealed why she had come. She said, “Joseph, I would like us to form a closer partnership. I wonder if you would be interested.”

Joseph asked, “What do you mean by that?”

Belinda replied, “Both professionally and personally. On the business side, I would like to make you a partner in the Towne family. You wouldn’t have to invest any money. You would participate in the family’s major decisions as an individual partner, and I would pay you generous dividends on a regular basis.”

Upon hearing that, Joseph understood what Belinda was thinking. Although she had secured the position of head of the Towne family, her footing wasn’t stable.

By bringing Joseph into the family, she could use his relationships with outsiders to build alliances and discourage anyone from targeting the family. She also wanted to use his medical skills.

However, none of that tempted Joseph. He asked, “What about the personal side?”

Belinda answered, “I’ll agree to anything you ask, including sleeping with you. If that isn’t enough, if there’s a woman in the Towne family you’ve taken an interest in, I’ll personally convince her.”

While saying that, Belinda stared at Joseph, unable to hide the nervousness in her eyes.

It was just as Joseph had expected. He replied, “I appreciate the offer, but for now, I think it’s best if we keep our

current partnership exactly as it is. If fate brings us to a deeper level of partnership someday, we’ll discuss it then.
