A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 475

Chapter 475

At this point, the only person Joseph truly trusted was himself. Not even Jenna was an exception.

He had already uncovered the identity of the girls’ biological father and exposed Cora’s lies for what they were. The only thing left was to see how she chose to play her hand.

If she agreed to a divorce, apologized, and compensated him for everything she had done, the matter might still end peacefully. Otherwise, he would make her pay.

He had no intention of taking her life. Instead, she wanted her to lose everything she valued most.

His informants reported back soon enough. Cora had gone to the Traditional Medicine Center with her people, but she failed to take Skylar away.

Was she useless, or was she just putting on a show for everyone to see?

Joseph had another idea. Perhaps he should drag Skylar directly in front of Cora and see how she explained herself then.

The Zahn family was consumed with hunting down the Towne family of Westoria while also dealing with pressure from outsiders. With so many distractions, security around Skylar would inevitably become lax.

Then, another report arrived. Yara had publicly announced a one-million-dollar reward to anyone who found Joseph.

Yara was going to regret that. Those legs of hers were never going to heal. In fact, they would probably be amputated eventually.

Joseph rested briefly before returning to the Traditional Medicine Center that afternoon. Around the same time, Jenson also delivered a sample of the aphrodisiac poison.

Joseph’s clearance wasn’t high enough to wander freely through every ward, but with Jenna’s access card, he could enter any restricted area that required electronic authorization.

That afternoon, he treated Luke with Jenna.

After Luke drifted off to sleep and no one else was in the room, Joseph turned to the middle-aged caretaker. “From the way you care for Luke, I’m guessing you two are more than just boss and employee.”

The housekeeper instinctively looked toward the elderly man sleeping on the bed. When there was no one else around, she sometimes thought the arrangement wasn’t so bad. While she couldn’t get any love from Luke, she could make money.

But how could she possibly admit something like that to a young man? It was just too embarrassing.

She said, “Watch what you say. Slander me, and I’ll tell him. Then, you won’t be working here much longer.”

Joseph shook his head. “I’m not trying to expose you. I just think you won’t get what you’re really after despite all your effort. The day Luke passes away, you’ll lose your value to everyone. I can help you get much more money than you could ever hope for. Think about it. If you’re interested, find me.”

Joseph wasn’t worried about her reporting him. After all, there was only one reason a woman was willing to care for a man several decades older than herself.

By evening, when it was time to change shifts, Joseph didn’t leave the Traditional Medicine Center. Worried about Joseph, Jenna stayed behind as well.

Joseph stood in the designated smoking area with a cigarette between his fingers. Before long, the housekeeper appeared. One look at her cautious yet greedy expression told him that she had taken the bait.

She said, “Dr. Jebb, you said you could help me this afternoon. What exactly did you mean by that?”

Joseph wasn’t about to discuss that in public. “Let’s talk in the office.”

Back at the office, he found an excuse to send Jenna away.

Then, he took out a small amount of the aphrodisiac powder and mixed it into a glass of water.

He drank a sip himself before handing the rest to the housekeeper.
