Chapter 480
“Reuben, you’re here! If you told me beforehand, I would’ve gone downstairs to receive you.” Jenna hurried to her feet and stepped forward to greet the elderly man.
Reuben Zahn nodded before fixing his gaze on Joseph, measuring him coldly. Then, he said, “You filthy little rat! Why are you still standing here? Get out!”
Joseph was somewhat surprised by the old man’s hostility. He was tempted to ask how he had offended the old fossil.
However, Jenna quickly motioned for Joseph to leave, giving him a look that promised she’d explain everything later.
“Reuben, why are you speaking to Henry like that? That’s hardly becoming of you,” Jenna said cutely.
Reuben replied, “Word about the two of you has already spread. I didn’t believe it at first, but I never imagined you’d actually keep him by your side. What are you thinking? Can’t you see that he’s basically a toad?”
“Are you worried he’ll take advantage of me? Don’t worry, that’s impossible. You’ve all misunderstood me.” Jenna smiled.
Then, she explained, “Reuben, I’ll tell you the truth. I brought Henry here to act as my shield. I just don’t want to be harassed by people for no reason.”
He frowned. “Even so, couldn’t you find someone better than this filthy little fellow?”
“Well, he is rather ugly. But it’s precisely because he is that I won’t fall for him.” Thinking about how Joseph looked right now, he truly wasn’t pleasing to the eye. But precisely because of that, no one would grow suspicious of him.
She quickly changed topics. “Reuben, you came at the perfect time. I was hoping you’d take charge of things here. I tried my best, but I really don’t think Yara’s legs can be saved. At this rate, amputation is our only option. There are also several other patients I’m not confident about healing.”
Reuben said, “Why the panic? I came here to reassure you. Now that the Zahn family medical sect has been brought into the spotlight, all sorts of riffraff have come crawling out, eager to take a swipe at us. This is nothing less than a challenge to our authority.”
As Reuben sat down, determination shone in his eyes.
Jenna immediately poured him a cup of coffee, then pulled out Yara’s medical records and began her explanation.
Outside the office, Joseph wasn’t in any hurry to leave. He listened for a while before leaving when someone else approached.
Not long afterward, he received a message from Jenna telling him to find somewhere else to stay. One of her seniors had returned after completing her studies and would be staying with Jenna.
Joseph simply applied for a staff dormitory at the Traditional Medicine Center. Since Skylar and Yara were both here, he figured he might as well make this place his base of operations. He would not be satisfied unless he made Skylar’s life a living hell.
Jenna cooperated and arranged a secluded single room for him.
That evening, he saw Cora and Belinda come to the hospital again. They entered Yara’s room and chatted for a long time, but as Cora finally left, he noticed Marla tailing her.
He didn’t leave the hospital and went straight to his dormitory instead.
Using another phone number, he contacted Yelena and learned that her people were about to fight Peyton’s men. Yelena was accusing Peyton of switching sides, helping Cora instead of Joseph.
Peyton finally laid her cards on the table as well. She openly declared that Joseph no longer had any value to her and that she intended to compete against Yelena.
Joseph reassured Yelena that so long as no one died on the spot, he would do everything in his power to save them. However,
