A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 479

Chapter 479

After leaving the consultation room, Jenna was called to Skylar’s hospital room. Only then did she learn that Joseph had gone and told Yara about the possibility of amputation. The news immediately gave her a headache. Joseph really did thrive on stirring up trouble.

She also knew that Joseph didn’t actually need to do anything. Just telling Yara she might lose her legs was enough to throw her into complete panic.

Making someone lie awake all night, suffering both physically and mentally, might be the cruelest form of revenge.

At that moment, Jenna could feel just how terrifying Joseph was.

As for Yara’s condition, she felt no pressure in telling Skylar the truth.

Skylar asked, “Doesn’t the medical sect have any other options?”

Jenna replied, “We’ve done everything we can. But with the more complex cases, there are times when we’re just powerless.”

Skylar continued, “Then how was Wesley cured? Didn’t he have ALS? Find Joseph and have him treat her.”

Jenna answered, “Joseph? No one knows where he is right now, so you’ll have to find him yourselves. The treatment plan we’re using is based on the one Joseph used for Wesley, but the results haven’t been very promising. If we can find him and persuade him to take over the treatment, there may be hope.”

Changing the subject slightly, Jenna said, “But Mr. Zahn, we heard a rumor that Cora’s three daughters are yours. If that’s true, would Joseph be willing to come?”

Skylar said coldly, “That’s right. Cora’s three daughters are mine. It’s an honor for the Lowells, and an honor for Joseph as well. What objections could he possibly have? If he refuses to cooperate, we’ll simply make him disappear from Jenton.”

“That’s well beyond my authority to deal with.” Hearing that only made Jenna feel even more sympathy for Joseph. Joseph had neither status nor powerful backing. People could simply trample over him as they pleased.

At that moment, she felt that she finally understood the courage and determination behind Joseph’s decision to fight back.

Joseph was fortunate to be such a gifted doctor and know how to keep a low profile. Otherwise, he would have spent his whole life being walked all over.

The thought made her pity him even more.

She said nothing about Joseph being in the hospital and quietly excused hersel

When she got back to her office, she immediately called Joseph over. She warned, “You must make sure you’re more careful from now on. If your identity is exposed, you’ll die a horrible death.”

Joseph raised an eyebrow. “Since when have you become so concerned about me? Have you heard something? Is Cora coming after me, or that cripple, Skylar?”

Joseph felt that Jenna’s warning was completely unwarranted.

Jenna said, “Considering everything you’ve done, and the fact that you’ve become a target because of what you possess, can’t you be a little more cautious and keep a lower profile?”

Joseph shrugged. “Right now, I’m hiding in plain sight. As long as you don’t betray me, I’m perfectly safe.”

Jenna said, “Your methods are clever, but I still hope you’ll be more careful. After all, caution is what keeps people alive. You know what? Forget it. Just pretend I never said anything.”
