A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 482

Chapter 482

Joseph stepped out into the hallway, where he ran into Cora once more. She stopped him and asked, “Why aren’t visitors allowed into Room 6?”

Room 6 was Yara’s room.

“She’s currently undergoing treatment, so you’ll have to wait,” Joseph replied casually before slipping away.

While Jenna and the others were elsewhere, he passed by Skylar’s room and noticed that the door was open, so he walked in.

Inside, Skylar was discussing work with his secretary, who had a laptop open in front of her.

Joseph announced that he was there to take Skylar’s temperature. As he approached, he stole a glance at the laptop screen and noticed the project was about redeveloping an old city.

Though he looked only briefly, Joseph had exceptional eyesight and memory. He committed everything on the screen to

memory.

“Stop right there,” Skylar called out. He dismissed his secretary, telling her they would continue their discussion later, before fixing Joseph with an appraising glare.

Joseph was confident that his disguise was flawless. In the past, Skylar knew him only as the useless Joseph Hart and had never paid him much attention. His appearance was now almost completely different, making it impossible for Skylar to recognize

him.

Having encountered Cora multiple times over the past two days without being recognized had only strengthened his resolve to maintain his disguise.

Joseph said, “Your temperature is slightly elevated. That’s perfectly normal. There’s no sign of infection, and you’re recovering

well.”

Skylar asked, “Why did you tell my sister about the possibility of amputation? What’s your goal here?”

Joseph replied, “It’s just the truth. I merely told her the facts/Of course, my motive was to earn some money on the side. You’re welcome to report me if you’d like, but if you do, it may become difficult for the truth to reach all of you in the future.”

Skylar narrowed his eyes. “You’ve got some nerve trying to profit off the Zahn family.”

Joseph said calmly, “The Zahn family is wealthy and influential. Surely a few tens of thousands mean nothing to you. For someone of your status, how many people are actually willing to tell you the truth? If you can buy honesty at that price, I would say it’s a bargain.”

Then, he added, “Of course, you’re all very influential. Killing someone like me would be a trivial matter.”

Skylar frowned. “Who gave you the confidence to speak to me like that? Jenna?”

Joseph shrugged. “I’m just acting as a shield for Jenna at the moment. Once that’s over, I’ll leave Jenton, so I’m trying to earn as much money as I can before then. The more financially secure I am elsewhere, the less likely I am to cause trouble. That’s why Jenna doesn’t mind me making a little extra on the side.”

Skylar scoffed. “At least you’re honest. Then tell me, how is Edmund’s condition?”

“You should ask Jenna and the others about that,” Joseph replied, rubbing his fingers together.

A vicious gleam flashed through Skylar’s eyes. He immediately summoned the bodyguard standing outside and ordered him to break Joseph’s finger.
