A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 483

Chapter 483

Joseph cursed, “That watchdog’s bite packs quite a punch!”

He went looking for Jenna and asked her to help set his fractured finger.

Jenna merely assisted when there were things Joseph couldn’t do himself. Before long, the injury had been treated and immobilized in a cast.

Jenna scolded, “You should’ve listened when I told you not to provoke Yara. Now you’ve been taught a

lesson.”

“I was careless,” Joseph admitted. As they walked back to the office, they spotted the bodyguard waiting by the elevator lobby.

However, with Jenna and some others present, the bodyguard didn’t dare make a move. Still, the murderous look in his eyes as he stared at Joseph was like that of a hunting dog watching its prey, ready to tear him apart at any moment.

Joseph cursed inwardly, making a mental note that he would see if the bodyguard would survive what’s coming if the bodyguard kept holding a grudge.

Skylar and his people had forced this conflict into the open. Either they would die, or he would.

But Joseph remained perfectly calm. Using his familiarity with the hospital’s layout, he made his escape with ease and immediately began plotting against the bodyguard.

The man wasn’t on duty 24 hours a day. He worked in shifts before returning to rest at Emerald Mountain. Moving around the village provided excellent cover.

After returning home, Joseph treated his own injury and was pleased with the results. If he were careful, he could even remove the cast.

Of course, the bone had yet to heal and remained fragile, so he wasn’t in a hurry. In fact, his injury had become the perfect excuse to refuse Jenna whenever she asked him to treat patients personally.

After that, he rested well.

At 6:00 am the following morning, the moment the bodyguard’s vehicle entered the hospital grounds, one of Joseph’s informants spotted him and immediately notified Joseph.

In the underground parking garage, Joseph waited beside a concrete pillar. When the bodyguard got out of his car, Joseph called out to him.

Provoked, the bodyguard glanced around. When he saw no one nearby and noticed they were outside the surveillance camera’s range, he quickly moved toward Joseph.

There was a thud as a sharp pain shot through his thigh. Looking down, he saw that an anesthetic dart had struck him. Though he immediately pulled it out, the drug had already entered his system.

Before he could react, he felt another sting on his neck. Reaching up, he discovered a second dart embedded there

His attention had been focused on Joseph, never expecting this to be a trap.

He tried to run, but it was already too late. The anesthetic Joseph created took effect with frightening speed. Soon, weakness spread through his arms and legs before consuming his entire body.

To his surprise, Joseph pulled out a bottle of alcohol and forced it down his throat.

It wasn’t long before he lost consciousness completely.

“Sleep well.” Joseph and his people quickly cleaned up the scene and left.

By the time the bodyguard was discovered, the hospital security team was doing its second patrol. He was rushed upstairs for treatment, and the diagnosis was simple. He lost consciousness as a result of alcohol poisoning.

Afterward, Joseph noticed that the security outside Skylar’s hospital room had been strengthened. Instead of only one bodyguard, there were now two.

Unable to identify who had targeted his bodyguard, Skylar’s only option was to increase his security

detail.

Furthermore, Cora had most likely seen the paternity test results. It meant that Cora would be even more determined to take Skylar away with her. If she could control Skylar, she would gain access to even greater benefits from the Zahns

Naturally, Skylar had no intention of becoming Cora’s puppet and would be wary of her as well.

Based on Joseph’s assessment, no one would suspect him.

The thought only strengthened his resolve to take Skylar out of the hospital and deliver him to the Lowells

Of course, such a plan would require careful arrangements, especially to avoid Jenna and the others.
