Grace’s death made Joseph realize that women were only temporary in his life. They brought him comfort when they came, but he couldn’t hold on to them forever.

The next day, Joseph returned to the department. Since everyone who knew about what had happened last night was asked to keep their mouths shut, no one discussed the incident.

For once, Joseph had some peace and quiet, so he left things the way they were.

But not long after, the Zahns’ lawyer came to negotiate with Joseph, asking him not to pursue the matter against Ivan. His family would pay a settlement in exchange for him dropping the complaint.

Jenna also advised Joseph to accept the offer. That way, the incident would be resolved quietly.

Joseph needed money too. He still had to support the team Grace left behind, and he needed them now more than

ever.

Speaking of that team, they were really useful. They already had information on the woman Joseph had noticed with Skylar last night.

The woman was Madeline Banks. She was 25, making her almost 20 years younger than Skylar.

The Banks family was just a middle-tier family, but thanks to their close ties with the Lowells, they were considered one of the top families among the middle tier.

Madeline was a gorgeous woman who had earned two degrees abroad and excelled in business management and finance. She was also Michael Banks’ legitimate granddaughter, so she had a relatively high standing within the family. That was probably one of the reasons Skylar had his eye on her.

Skylar might be manipulating Madeline to gain a certain degree of control over the Banks family. That also meant that the Banks family might be under the Zahns’ influence.

Even if the Zahns weren’t involved, the Banks family had close ties with the Lowells. If Joseph wanted Cora to give in, he would have to diminish the Banks family’s power.

No matter how powerful a family was, it could still fall apart from within.

Joseph hated everyone associated with Skylar, so he had no intention of going easy on him or anything related to him.

Joseph was reviewing some documents when Yara summoned him to her room. As expected, she gave him a warning but did not make things difficult for him.

When Skylar’s bodyguards came to summon Joseph, Yara stopped him and told him not to go.

Joseph asked, “Why?”

“My brother really values Ivan. Since you humiliated Ivan, Skylar will definitely come after you. You may not know this, but Ivan’s already been released. He’s in Skylar’s room right now.”

Yara let out a scoff before saying, “If you’ve got a death wish, you can go over there!”

“I’m not looking for trouble, so there’s no way I’m going over there!” Joseph let out a chuckle. He then sent Jenna a message, snitching on Ivan.

A few minutes later, Jenna replied, saying that she had already warned Ivan not to stir up any trouble. That way, Skylar wouldn’t make things hard for Joseph, at least not while he was still in the hospital.

The problem was taken care of.

Before Joseph left, he reminded Yara to find Joseph as soon as possible. Otherwise, she would have no choice but to undergo amputation.

“Why are you pretending to care about him? When you were fooling around with those men, you were just as shameless as those women at Maroon Mansion.”

“Shut up!” Cora scowled. After all, someone else was in the room too.
