Joseph narrowed his eyes. He decided to go all in. He said, “Calling you Big Sis would be my honor. Actually, I would like to become your sworn and most loyal little brother. I wonder if I would be lucky enough to deserve that.

Yara’s pupils contracted, and the smile on her face froze. She stared at Joseph, stunned. When she didn’t respond,” he thought, “Did I overdo it? Maybe I laid it on too thick.”
Joseph gave a self-deprecating laugh and added, “I knew it. I’m ugly. I don’t have any connections. I’m just a worthless nobody. Someone like me doesn’t deserve something that good.”
Yara smiled and said, tearing a check before writing ten thousand dollars on it, “Alright, you’re my little brother from now on.”
“Big Sis, you’re insulting me. If you’ve accepted me as your brother, I can’t take your money. I really can’t, declined Joseph.
Joseph thought, “Go ahead and be happy. Soon, I’ll push you into hell.”
Yara insisted, “Take it. I’m in a good mood today. If you decline, you’ll ruin my good mood, and I’ll be angry.”
Yara forced the check into Joseph’s hands. She didn’t have endless wealth, but at that moment, he seemed capable of giving her something far more valuable than money.
She felt happy, but when she remembered she couldn’t truly recover, and amputation was still awaiting her, her future looked bleak. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t bring herself to be happy.
Joseph offered a few comforting words, but he realized that Yara was crying. She seemed sad. Upon seeing that, he thought, “Even an evil woman like you can cry? How could you have the nerve to cry? Those must be crocodile
tears.”
Later, Gemma called Joseph into her office to discuss a patient’s condition. Compared to Jenna, Gemma had become more dependent on Joseph’s opinions. Yara truly wasn’t wrong. Gemma really was all chest and no brains.
Joseph didn’t dare to appear too extraordinary. He would look through medical references, point Gemma toward relevant information, and let her make the decision herself. Little by little, she began following his guidance. Eventually, they pieced together an effective treatment plan.
Gemma was overjoyed. That night, she treated Joseph to a late-night meal. She intended to get him drunk, but these days, he was cautious about everything. So, he saw through her intentions.
Joseph decided to play along. He pretended to be drunk. Instead of taking him to his dorm, Gemma took him to Jenna’s place. She put him on the bed and patted his face.
When she realized she couldn’t wake him up, she mumbled, “This guy has such a terrible alcohol tolerance. Well, I guess it’s better that you’re completely passed out.”
Keeping his eyes barely open, Joseph watched Gemma change his clothes. He stripped him down. Then, she leaned close and started taking selfies.
Sensing that Gemma was about to do something to him, Joseph rolled over. As she reached out to pull him back, he used the momentum to roll the other way, pinning half her body beneath him while pretending to snore. His breath reeked of alcohol.
It took her quite a while to wriggle free. Then, she smacked him a few times, complaining that his body was heavy and that he almost crushed her.

After Gemma left the room, she never came back. On the other hand, Joseph had no intention of taking advantage of her either. There was no point in creating unnecessary trouble for himself. So, nothing else happened that night.
The next day, Joseph pretended to be surprised and asked, “Weren’t we out having a late-night meal last night? How did we end up in Jenna’s apartment? We didn’t do anything crazy, did we?”
Gemma laughed. “You’re not much to look at, but you’ve certainly got a vivid imagination.”
