Glancing over her work log, Gemma asked Cora, “What do you guys want with Yara?”

Belinda snapped, “Whatever it is, that’s between Yara and us. You don’t need to know. Now quit wasting time and let us through!”

Gemma shot back, “If you don’t tell me why you’re here, then I can’t let you see her.”

Belinda’s temper flared. “Say that again.”

Gemma stood her ground, enunciating each word slowly, “If you do not tell me why you are here, I cannot let you see her.”

“God, you’re really testing my patience. I ought to smack you…

Realizing things were escalating fast, Cora quickly grabbed Belinda to hold her back. At the same time, Joseph came over to position himself in front of Gemma.

He was just a total nobody, but he couldn’t exactly stand by and watch his boss get smacked.

Once Cora had calmed Belinda down, she turned to Gemma. “We’re here to talk to Yara about our project. It’s highly confidential. Are you sure you want to know about it?”

“Look at what state Yara’s in, and you’re still bothering her with business? Are you trying to kill her faster?”

Gemma wasn’t actually hard-headed. The two women before her were the head of the Towne family and the decision-maker for the Lowell family, as well as Jenton’s richest woman. This tiny place was just about the only place where she could stand her ground.

She was just making things a little difficult on purpose so that Cora and the others would stop acting so high and mighty the next time they came around.

Gemma had Joseph lead Cora to Yara’s room.

“Big Sis, Joseph’s wife is here to see you,” Joseph said, making sure to sound extra affectionate when he called Yara “Big Sis”.

Cora couldn’t help giving Joseph another look when she heard that. She mused, “This ugly guy sure knows how to butter people up. He’s even won Yara over.”

“I can get them to leave if you don’t want to talk to them,” Joseph added.

“Let them stay. Just help me sit up.”

Since Yara was lying down, she got Joseph to prop her up just enough to slide a pillow behind her back, saving him the trouble of cranking the hospital bed up.

Just as Joseph was about to leave, Yara stopped him. Then she turned to Cora. “You can talk to Harold Zahn about the Provora project. My brother and I have transferred all our authority over it to him.”

Joseph’s heart skipped a beat when he heard that name. He’d actually suspected Harold of being Natalie’s biological father at one point and even ran a DNA test, though it obviously came back negative.

But from what he’d read, Harold was a talented young man who already wielded considerable power within the Zahn family.

Now that Yara was saying Harold had absorbed the siblings’ authority, he was going to be even more untouchable.

He might even be the one to take over the Zahn family empire.

So, if someone were to take Harold out, wouldn’t that be a massive blow to the Zahns?

The second that thought crossed Joseph’s mind, he already knew who could do the job. He could use the Snow family, or any of the other families the Zahns had crushed.

Those people hated the Zahns with a passion. To them, every member of the Zahn family was a sworn enemy, and they’d fight to the bitter end if given the chance.

Joseph also knew about the Provora project. It was a massive real estate development split into five phases, with plans to build over a hundred buildings.

Once it was done, residents from the surrounding towns would be relocated there, creating a hub for hundreds of thousands, maybe even a million people.

The completed community would be the largest integrated development in Jenton, complete with its own hospitals, schools, and just about every facility imaginable.

The project’s main benefit, of course, was that the developers would get control of the land from those towns.

On one side, they would monopolize all the commercial opportunities within a massive community housing hundreds of thousands, even over a million, people.

On the other, they would gain the land-use rights to several towns. It was truly an enormous piece of the pie.
