A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 526

Chapter 526

Gemma asked, “Oh, really? So your bet was that I slept with him?”

“Obviously. You’re gorgeous, Gemma. Any guy would jump at the chance to sleep with a beauty like you. Before Mr. Zahn was hospitalized, he was a big shot. And you two would be the very picture of a perfect couple,” Joseph responded.

“If you think that, then you’re blind. What a waste of a perfectly fine human body. Having that thing on you is an absolute waste.”

Joseph asked, “What thing are you talking about?”

“I’m talking about your conscience!” Gemma huffed.

Even though she said that, her gaze briefly flicked toward Joseph’s crotch, the implication needing no words.

Alas, Joseph completely missed the innuendo. “So, did you guys actually do it or not?”

“You idiot! If you can’t speak like a normal human being, then get the hell out. All you do is say things that ruin my appetite.”

“That sounds like a yes to me. I won the bet.”

Joseph gave a mischievous grin before lowering his head and shoveling food into his mouth.

Just then, Yara’s caregiver came over and told Joseph to keep Yara company for a bit.

Gemma warned him before letting him go, “Henry, you need to watch what you say. Don’t go blabbing everything to Yara. Her moods are unpredictable. When she turns vicious, you won’t be able to handle her.

“Think before you speak. Just be careful, or what you say will come back to bite you.”

When Joseph walked in, he noticed Yara looking depressed. He could guess part of the reason. On top of facing an amputation and having little time left, she’d probably already been stripped of all her authority in the Zahn family by Owen and the others. That meant that she had absolutely nothing left.

“Come here, Henry. I’m in a terrible mood. I’m heartbroken,” Yara said.

The second Joseph got close enough, she grabbed him right in the soft, fleshy part of his waist, twisting hard.

Joseph winced in pain, yelping that she was going to snap him in half.

“You little punk, I knew there was more to you than meets the eye. No wonder Jenna acknowledged your relationship. You’re not much to look at, but you’re one hell of a man.”

Yara said this because she obviously knew exactly how rare Joseph’s physical traits were.

“This damn woman…” Joseph thought as he pretended to be gasping for air.

“You’re being shameless!”

His reaction gave Yara a bold idea, and the more she thought about it, the more feasible it seemed. She immediately transferred 500,000 dollars to Joseph’s account. “If I actually hurt you, this is for your medical expenses.”

“Thanks, Big Sis.”

Joseph knew when to quit while he was ahead, but he was wondering why she was being so generous all of a sudden and what she could be plotting.

“Henry, I want you to set up a company. I’m going to help you make another fortune,” Yara added.

“Start a company? Make a fortune? I’m not good at those things at all. I’m just a guy working in the medical field. Asking me to cross over into the business world to make money is like trying to teach a pig to sing. I can’t do it.”

“A real man never says he can’t do something! I know that aside from being a doctor, you don’t know anything else. And that’s why I’ll have someone teach you.”

Yara shoved a contact over to Joseph-it was the contact of one of her most trusted aides.
