Chapter 531

“Reuben, how’s my brother?”
Yara was getting pretty impatient after waiting so long. Reuben had been in the same position without moving at all. She was so annoyed that she didn’t even want him touching Skylar’s wrist anymore.
“Think the old man fell asleep?” Joseph casually joked as he walked over to wave a hand in front of Reuben’s face.
Reuben’s eyes were the only things that could still move. His mouth couldn’t be moved, and his arms and legs were totally unresponsive.
“Wake him up!”
Yara felt extremely disrespected. Even though she and Skylar had lost some authority within the family, it was only because they were seriously ill.
Joseph pretended to be concerned. He softly called out to Reuben before gasping in shock. “He might be having a medical emergency. Judging from his condition, he may have suffered a stroke.
“We can’t just move him. Let me get Dr. Geller here right away. Big Sis, I’ll take you back to your room first.”
Under the guise of examining Reuben, Joseph slipped the needles out. Aside from the tiny spots of blood where the needles had entered his neck, which he quickly wiped away, nothing would attract attention.
He immediately notified Gemma. When she rushed over with the team, Reuben’s eyes and mouth were already drooping, which were classic signs of a stroke.
They all just assumed Reuben had worked himself into a stroke trying so desperately to figure out how to save Skylar.
With no external injuries and no outsiders involved, not a single person suspected Joseph. They transferred Reuben to the ICU and began emergency treatment.
Joseph wasn’t qualified to participate in the emergency treatment, but he was allowed to sit in on the consultation. Looking at the test results, he realized the situation was way worse than he’d thought.
“Seems like I didn’t overdo it after all. That old man was already at the end of his rope. Of course, if I hadn’t pushed him, he might have held on a little longer.
“If he gets some fresh plasma later, he might actually pull through this one…” Joseph mused, keeping his mouth shut and just watching.
But as he listened to the doctors break down the condition and pitch treatment plans, his own twisted understanding of medical sabotage was leveling up. And that gave him goosebumps.
He kept reminding himself that he must be a good doctor.
After leaving the consultation room, he went to update Yara. Just as he finished, Gemma called him away.
Inside the office, Gemma asked Joseph to close the door. “How involved were you in Edmund’s treatment before this?”
“Why is she suddenly bringing this up? Did I slip up? That shouldn’t be possible…” Joseph mused.
He answered, “I never had a chance to participate. Aren’t you asking a question you already know the answer to?”
“I know what happened at the hospital. But I don’t know how much Jenna told you privately.”

“She mentioned a few things, but mostly she was just thinking out loud. Just be straight with me and tell me what I need to do.”
“Do you know anything about exchange transfusions?”
“I did see something about it on Jenna’s computer before. It was a report from Jenton University Hospital where some guy named Joseph Hart criticized your medical sect for doing exchange transfusions.
“I have looked into the related materials after that, but honestly, my understanding is limited. So I just don’t get how it works.”
“Did Jenna tell you how it’s actually done?”
