A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 530

Chapter 530

Back in the office, Gemma asked Joseph to massage her shoulders. She then complained about an itchy collarbone, asking him to scratch it for her.

Joseph was well aware that Gemma was both testing him and throwing him a bone. As such, he played the same game, doing the whole coy, push-and-pull routine right back at her.

Even so, Gemma knew where to draw the line. After all, they were still at the office, so she didn’t let Joseph’s hands wander any further.

Sure, fooling around in a medical office was thrilling, but it was super risky. This wasn’t like an office in the administration building, where hardly anyone passed by.

Doctors and nurses could barge in to ask questions at any second here. Besides, Reuben had arrived much sooner than Gemma expected, so she didn’t dare continue fooling around.

As soon as Reuben arrived, he made a beeline for Skylar’s room. While checking Skylar’s pulse, he noticed how terrifyingly weak it was, causing him to frown deeply.

The younger and middle-aged doctors from the medical sect trickled in to examine Skylar before heading to the office for a consultation.

Gemma had Joseph sit right behind her to sit in on the meeting. When she went over the recent treatment plan, she made sure to mention that Joseph was the one who accidentally stumbled upon the solution, hoping to give him some credit.

“Anyone who isn’t part of the team should leave!”

Unexpectedly, the moment Gemma mentioned Joseph, Reuben, who had forgotten all about him, remembered him and ordered him to leave.

“Gemma, don’t take a nobody with no proper background seriously. If you think his method works, just use it. As for the person himself, just treat him like a tool and make him work.”

“You’re absolutely right, Reuben. I’ll keep that in mind,” Gemma replied politely.

She went along with it for now, though she was secretly thinking that Joseph had his own strengths too.

Joseph had zero interest in listening to their pointless analysis anyway. He left the consultation room, but it wasn’t long before Yara summoned him.

Yara was pissed. “What’s wrong with you? Why didn’t you come to tell me that my brother’s condition suddenly took a turn for the worse? Are you—’

Joseph quickly explained, “You’re seriously blaming me, Big Sis? Mr. Zahn suddenly became critically ill, so everyone had to rush in to save him. The second we stabilized him, my very first thought was to come report to you. But when I got here, you were asleep!

“I didn’t want to disturb you, so I didn’t wake you up. After that, I went back to dig through hundreds of medical papers and case reports based on his symptoms.

“When I finally found a similar case, I then improved the treatment method, and that’s what finally got his condition under control. Then Reuben waltzes in and does nothing to help before deciding I’m the useless one. And now you think so too.”

By the end of it, he sounded genuinely pitiful and wronged.

“You little punk, you do one little thing for me, and you’re already whining about it? You’re hopeless! Am I not allowed to lecture you when we’re family?”

“Of course you can. I know that you only hit me and scold me because you care about me.”

“If it weren’t for me keeping you in line, you wouldn’t even have the chance to get close to me! Just stay smart and stick by my side, and I won’t shortchange you. Cherish this opportunity to change your destiny.”

Yara used both the stick and the carrot on Joseph. With Joseph acting so meek, she figured getting him to follow her lead would be easy.

She had Joseph help her into the wheelchair and push her to Skylar’s room. She wouldn’t be able to relax until she saw with her own eyes that Skylar was okay.

When they got to Skylar’s room, Reuben was the only one in there. He was deeply focused on feeling Skylar’s pulse, completely absorbed in his examination.

Yara didn’t dare make a peep and could only wait quietly.
