Chapter 549
Joseph had expected the housekeeper to leave after delivering the message. Instead, Yara was so furious that she ordered the woman to bring him over. However, Joseph feigned being too injured to leave his hospital bed, forcing Yara to come to him instead.
She sneered. “So, do you have the guts to repeat what you said earlier? Go on.”
Joseph let out a cold snort. “Weren’t you the one who told me to get lost? I did, so what are you doing here?”
Yara snapped, “Do you think I wanted to come? If you weren’t like a damn mutt trying to rebel, I wouldn’t have bothered.”
Joseph replied calmly, “You keep calling me a dog, but here you are, begging me to forgive someone else. Tell me, who’s the pathetic one here? Yara, doesn’t that just make you a bitch?”
Yara narrowed her eyes. “Henry, are you trying to get yourself killed?”
Joseph stretched his neck forward, offering himself up. “Go ahead, kill me.”
Yara was furious. “You think I won’t? No, death would be too easy for you. I’ll make sure you lose everything.”
She immediately called one of her trusted confidants, telling him to sell every quality stock in Henry’s account and buy back nothing but junk. She wanted Joseph to be wiped out.
Moments later, her subordinate called back, telling her that Henry had liquidated every holding ages ago. The money had long since disappeared.
Yara hissed, “You little bastard. So you actually learned something.”
Joseph replied, “Bitch, you think you’re the only clever one? You people always think that everyone else is an idiot. Once money lands in my pocket, it’s my money. If I listened to you, it would’ve found its way right back into
yours.
“That’s just how your kind works. You squeeze money out of everyone you can, whether it’s government funds, family, friends, or ordinary people like me.”
Joseph met Yara’s icy glare. “What now? Are you going to send one of your thugs to kill me? Go ahead. If I were afraid of dying, I wouldn’t be here in the first place.”
Yara spat, “You’ve completely lost your mind.”
Facing Joseph’s fearless rebuttals, Yara found herself with no answer. She couldn’t simply have someone murder him inside a hospital, and she knew that Joseph was right. Her standing within the family had become increasingly precarious. One wrong move, and they would discard her without hesitation.
She ordered her housekeeper to wheel her away. Halfway down the corridor, she suddenly changed her mind and asked to go back.
Joseph said coldly, “What now?”
This time, Yara’s demeanor changed completely. The arrogance was gone, replaced by an almost gentle smile. “I lost my temper earlier and said some things I shouldn’t have. I’m sorry.”
Joseph thought to himself that Yara was really good at humbling herself when she needed to. He sneered. “Do you think I’ll believe you? You change your allegiances faster than most people change their clothes.”
Yara sighed. “What else do you want me to do? I’d get on my knees if I could, but I can’t even stand up from this

wheelchair. My legs are useless, and my life isn’t even my own anymore.
“I’m about to become crippled and might even die. Try putting yourself in my shoes. Is there really a point in being angry with me?”
Joseph replied, “So, are you asking me to apologize?”
He lifted his bandaged hand with a bitter smile. “Look at what your brother did. I hadn’t done a thing, and he broke my finger. Now I’ve been assaulted, yet somehow I’m supposed to apologize to the people who attacked me What exactly did I do to deserve this?”
Yara froze, finally taking a good look at Joseph’s despondent figure. She recalled everything that had happened to Henry over the past few weeks, and much of her anger quietly dissolved, replaced by an unexpected flicker of sympathy.
