Chapter 548
Joseph knew exactly what kind of person Fiona was, so he didn’t feel like discussing anything else.
Their first round of negotiations ended on a sour note.
Once everyone else had left, Jenna said to Joseph, “I honestly didn’t expect this. Even after everything that’s happened, you’re still tangled up with Cora. In fact, the two of you seem to be getting more and more involved with each other. If this continues, people are going to start paying attention to you.”
Joseph replied, “I just want to watch Cora and Skylar from the sidelines. And because I’ve been doing that, I’ve noticed things I never saw before. After all, you can never see the full picture if you’re directly involved.”

The truth was that he still couldn’t let go of Cora and his daughters. Otherwise, if revenge had been his only goal, he could have used his medical knowledge to destroy Cora’s entire family with ease.
Killing someone was merciful. The cruelest revenge was to wear away at a person’s heart little by little until the pain became permanent.
The woman he had loved for nearly 20 years had cheated on him, giving birth to another man’s children. Not once, but thrice. The wound she left on him would last a lifetime. And he intended for everyone who had hurt him to carry scars that were just as impossible to erase.
Jenna sighed. “The more you do this, the less willing you will be to leave Jenton. Joseph, I think it’s time you made a bolder decision. Join the Zahn medical sect.”
Joseph nodded. “Alright, I’ll do it.”
Jenna blinked. “Are you not even going to consider it?”
Jenna never expected Joseph to agree so quickly. It almost made her feel as though joining the Zahn medical sect required no standards at all.
Joseph chuckled. “What’s there to think about? I’m still hiding my identity, so I’ll be wearing this disguise for a while longer I don’t want to drag you down with me. If I join the medical sect, I’ll understand both your organization and the Zahn family much better.
“Since it’s a win all around, I’d be an idiot to refuse. Just tell me what procedures I need to go through.”
Jenna smiled. “The main requirement is that Gemma and I sponsor you jointly. As for everything else, you won’t have any trouble qualifying.”
She looked at Joseph and felt her cheeks warming up slightly. Joseph was actually willing to join the medical sect for her sake. She couldn’t help but feel touched.
When Gemma learned that Joseph intended to join, she was overjoyed and immediately worked with Jenna to begin the necessary arrangements.
Joseph continued pretending to be an injured patient when Yara’s housekeeper arrived and sent everyone else
away.
She said to Joseph, “Ms. Yara asked me to tell you not to stir up any more trouble and not to interfere with her relationship with Cora. You’re a smart man. You should understand that if you apologize to Cora and Natalie and earn-their forgiveness, you’ll be compensated generously.”
What a world they lived in.

The victim was expected to apologize to the people who had assaulted him. Given enough money, the victims might even have to start paying their attackers.
Even if someone held a knife to his throat, there wasn’t the slightest chance he would apologize.
He said, “Go tell Yara to worry about herself. Her leg’s about to be amputated, and she’s still meddling in other people’s business.”
He sneered. “I know she’s trying to protect her niece, but does Cora even dare acknowledge that relationship publicly? Besides, Yara already cut ties with me, so what gives her the right to order me around now? Who does she think she is?”
