A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 664

Chapter 664

Joseph agreed readily. He noticed what Madeline was trying to do, but he neither stopped her nor encouraged them. Before long, he took her out with him.

After making the necessary arrangements, he left the hospital with Madeline to visit that elder from the Banks family.

The old man held a very high position within the Banks family, easily among the top five. With Michael unconscious at the moment and Charlie constantly hovering on the brink of critical illness, the old man’s standing within the family had risen even further.

However, Joseph wasn’t merely asking the old man to give Madeline a position. He also wanted the Banks family to withdraw from the projects they were working on with Cora.

Cora had seemingly endless financial resources, which deeply connected her with the York family, the Banks family, and several other prominent families. If anyone within the Banks family objected, Joseph was prepared to have the old man split away from the main family.

Madeline witnessed the entire process. She could tell that Joseph was taking advantage of the authority he had recently acquired, and she quietly filed that information away.

Once they returned to the car, she asked Joseph, “Henry, you seemed to make quite a few demands. Skylar never said anything about those.”

Joseph retorted, “What? Do you think I handled it badly? Do you think you’ll ever have a chance of beating Cora if I don’t bring her down from her position? Can you really ignore the fact that Skylar already has three daughters?”

If Madeline proved to be troublesome, he was prepared to make her pay.

Madeline shook her head. “I can’t. Skylar and I are the ones who are truly suited for each other. Cora isn’t worthy of him. By the way, when can I see Skylar again?”

“Again?” Joseph’s lips curled into a smile as his gaze briefly fell toward Madeline’s long, shapely legs.

Madeline replied, “Don’t be like this, Henry. I can’t do anything that would betray Skylar. Other than that, I’ll do whatever you want.”

From Joseph’s ugly appearance alone, she could tell what was going through his mind. He seemed rather lecherous, and she had no interest in him.

He said, “There’s something you don’t know. Skylar has been poisoned twice already. His liver and kidneys have suffered serious damage. Even if he recovers, he may permanently lose some of his normal functions as a healthy man. If you stay with him, you might as well be living like a widow.”

Madeline was shocked. “What? How could that happen? That’s impossible! You’re just trying to scare me, aren’t you?”

She was still so young, and certainly didn’t want to spend the rest of her life as a widow.

“If I can arrange another meeting, I’ll contact you.” Joseph didn’t elaborate further.

After parting ways with Madeline, he returned to the Traditional Medicine Center.

Two days later, Helen hurried into Cora’s home. She knocked and entered the study without waiting for Cora’s permission. She didn’t care that Cora was speaking to someone on the phone and immediately said, “Cora, something terrible has happened.”

Cora ended the call, then frowned. “What happened? Don’t panic and slowly explain it to me”

Helen said, “The Banks family was to split off and suspend their cooperation with the Lowell family.

“Split off?” Cora’s head immediately started to ache at those words. Her problem within the company still hadn’t been resolved. Marlin had been determined to split away from the family, and even using Marlin’s scandalous personal affairs as leverage hadn’t been enough to make him back down.
