A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 690

Chapter 690

Yera nearly stopped breathing when she heard that Joseph hadn’t chosen her. She was so angry that she almost coughed up blood. In the end, tears streamed down her face.

“Do you not trust me? Of course, I would choose you. The Zahn family’s whole point was to test whether or not I would choose you. How could I get it wrong?” Joseph reassured her.

Joseph pressed his forehead against Yara’s, teasing her. Yara asked, “Why did you scare me like that?”

Joseph replied, “How else was I supposed to know how much you care about me if I didn’t test you?”

Yara shouted, “You’re awful!”

When Yara realized Joseph was leaning in to kiss her, she responded, quickly becoming emotionally swept up in the moment. She let him do whatever he wanted. If she were healthy, she would definitely want to take things further with him.

Outside, Cora arrived at the ward but was stopped by Beth at the door. Beth whispered, “Ms. Zahn and Mr. Jebb are inside. They’re having some private time together. We shouldn’t disturb them.”

“Private time? What kind of private time could they possibly be having?” Cora asked, finding it strange.

Beth responded, “It’s exactly what you’re thinking.”

Cora questioned, “What does Henry have going for him that makes Yara so infatuated with him?”

Beth answered, “Naturally, Mr. Jebb has his strengths. Considering how devoted he has been to Ms. Zahn during such a difficult time, it’s only natural that she would cherish him.”

Cora replied, “I suppose I should wish them well.”

Cora frowned. Despite Henry’s unattractive appearance, she couldn’t help feeling unsettled thinking about everything Yara had put him through and how he still treated her with such genuine devotion.

Cora looked Beth over, already considering whether she should win the latter over. If she did, she could get Yara to experience the consequences of an antifertility drug.

Suddenly, Yara’s voice came from inside the ward. Although the sound was faint and muffled, Cora could tell that Yara was overwhelmed with emotion.

Over the years, whenever Cora and Joseph had been intimate, she had experienced that same overwhelming sense of fulfillment.

Joseph had been gone for so long. Aside from that one intense night they had shared before everything fell apart, Cora hadn’t experienced anything like it again.

Cora cursed, “Damn you, Yara! Damn you, Skylar! You’ve both ruined my life!”

Cora left in a foul mood. Fiona soon joined Cora in the car. Fiona said, “I’ve been watching from outside this whole time, but I never saw Joseph. Do you really think he’ll show up?”

Cora answered, “I don’t know, but other than waiting for Joseph to make a move, I don’t have a better option. I believe he’ll show himself for Natalie’s sake.

“Fiona, I asked you to come here because I have two things to discuss with you. Have you decided whether you’re going through with the surgery? Don’t keep putting it off.”

Fiona replied, “I know. I’ll wait a little longer. Once Joseph shows up, he can treat me; I won’t need surgery, which would be ideal. If he can’t help me, then I’ll have the surgery. Whatever happens afterward, I’ll deal with it.”

Cora stated, “I think of you as my little sister. Your illness is my concern too. I’ll find you the best doctors and make sure you get the best medicine.”

“Thank you, Cora,” responded Fiona. She was deeply touched, and her eyes began to well up.

Seeing Fiona’s reaction, Cora couldn’t bring herself to bring up the second matter and just told Fiona she could
