Chapter 739

Joseph and Natalie were about to continue their conversation when someone knocked on the door.

Then, Fiona walked in.

“Ms. Hart, your mother sent me to bring you home. Please don’t make things difficult for me,” she said, completely ignoring Henry.

After Joseph had stepped in to treat her and she continued taking her medication, her condition had stabilized considerably. The lesion was shrinking, and after a little more time, she would be able to undergo a minimally invasive procedure to remove it.

Her admiration for Joseph had only grown stronger. So naturally, she had no intention of giving Henry another chance. If she was going to bear a child, she wanted to have it with Joseph. Joseph had no biological children of his own. If she gave him a child, surely he would value her more.

Little did she know that the ugly-looking man standing right in front of her was the very man she regarded as her

savior.

Joseph watched the two women leave and felt his emotions fluctuate somewhat. After all, Cora stubbornly continued to deny him a divorce and having ever betrayed him.

He lit a cigarette and took a few puffs, gradually calming himself before returning his attention to the research materials in front of him.

The material concerned theories surrounding human longevity. It might not provide a path to immortality, but some theories on cardiovascular and cerebrovascular health were still valuable.

And if medicine could be used to extend life, the opposite might be possible as well.

Joseph hadn’t allowed Harry to regain consciousness because he wanted to keep Harry incapacitated and prevent him from having the opportunity to defend himself.

Unexpectedly, Clara visited him that afternoon. Not long after she entered the ward, Harry’s condition suddenly deteriorated. Before long, he was dead.

Clara immediately took the body away, refusing to leave it in the morgue for even a moment.

Joseph found the circumstances suspicious. After examining the remaining data, he found clues pointing to Clara administering some kind of medication herself.

Was that old woman really that ruthless?

She was trying to preserve whatever she currently controlled. If Harry remained alive but incapacitated, everyone would take advantage of his condition and begin carving up his assets. But once Harry was dead, people would hesitate.

After all, the dead always deserved respect.

Joseph never obtained Harry’s body for a proper forensic examination. So he couldn’t determine the exact cause of death. But honestly, he didn’t particularly care.

Joel hurried back as fast as he could, but he still arrived too late to see Harry alive. He only made it to the cemetery just before Harry’s ashes were laid to rest.

Joseph also attended the funeral. As he was leaving, he happened to see Joel helping Clara into a car. The way they

acted caused an outrageous thought to cross his mind. What if something inappropriate happened between that ald-woman and her godson?

No, that was just too messed up.

Joseph immediately abandoned the idea of using some kind of love potion on the two of them. Otherwise, it would be another ridiculous Harold-and-Pamela scandal.

Harold and Pamela were currently being held by Owen in an isolated corner of the village, living their shameless lives together.

At first, Joseph and the others, including Yara, had been baffled by Owen’s tolerance toward Harold. But the more frequently he entered Emerald Mountain, the more he came to understand the situation.

The Zahn family had a serious shortage of capable people in the younger and middle-aged generations. Harold was one of the better ones among them, so Owen probably couldn’t bring himself to throw away such a talent.
