Joel scoffed. “Stop putting on airs. Your last name is Jebb, mine is Zahn. You’re an outsider. What gives you the right to boss around people from the Zahn family? You’re the one who’s being disrespectful.”

Joseph smiled faintly. “I can just change my last name. I’ll be Henry Zahn from now on. That makes me a part of the Zahn family, doesn’t it?”

Joel narrowed his eyes. “Don’t try to weasel your way out of it. Hand over the research right now, or I’ll make sure you regret it.”

Joel stepped forward as though he was about to throw a punch.

Joseph sighed. “I was the one who gave up my overseas opportunity and let you take my place. I never expected you to repay my kindness like this. Harry’s gone, so no one cares about you anymore. The Zahn family has no patience for turncoats like you.”

Joseph summoned the security guards and had Joel escorted away.

Once they reached an empty stairwell, Joseph’s men pinned Joel down and gave him a thorough beating.

Not long afterward, the security guards reported that Joel had been drinking, lost his footing, and fell down the stairs. He was unconscious.

Despite emergency treatment, Joel remained unconscious.

Joseph had no intention of killing him, but he certainly didn’t mind leaving him bedridden for a week or even a month. By then, anything that had originally belonged to Joel would already have been taken from him.

Two days later, Joseph finished translating the theory from the ancient text and sent the translated material back to Emerald Mountain. He discussed things with the two remaining leaders there before obtaining some of their research materials. After that, he left.

That day, Joseph received a message from Cora inviting him out for dinner. So once again, he found himself at the same restaurant.

This time, Joseph ate slowly and elegantly, behaving with impeccable manners. Cora was slightly surprised. “Dr. Jebb, it’s only been a few days, but you’ve improved quite a lot.”

Joseph smiled. “I’m close to taking control of the Zahn medical sect. Some old habits and bad practices naturally need to be left behind. People have to grow, after all.”

Cora raised an eyebrow. “Really? How did you manage that? I also heard that Yara is planning to break off your engagement. Yet somehow, you’ve managed to turn that setback into an even bigger step forward.”

Joseph shrugged. “Within the medical sect, I’m simply the best of what’s available. Otherwise, I would never have gotten this chance. What is meant to be will be. What isn’t meant to be can’t be forced. Fate works in mysterious

ways.

“As for Yara, she’s playing with fire. She’ll regret it eventually. Actually, let’s not talk about Yara. I’m almost afraid to mention her in front of you. How are you planning to deal with her?”

Cora said, “Her legs are still injured, aren’t they? If she recovers, I’ll just break them again. If she doesn’t recover, then she doesn’t have much time left anyway. Why bother? My husband hasn’t personally dealt with her, so I don’t see any reason to rush.”

Joseph leaned slightly forward. “Let me tell you something. And don’t tell anyone you heard it from me. Yara might still be pretending to use a wheelchair in front of me, but her legs have already recovered. She can stand and walk normally. She could even run for some distance without any trouble.”
