Joseph spent several days in the hospital recovering from his injuries and lying low. One day, he asked Yara to visit Skylar so they could have some time alone.

Skylar demanded, “Do you really have to be with Joseph? Are there no other men in Jenton? If there aren’t, look elsewhere in the country. Pick whoever you want. Even Henry would be fine. Just not Joseph.

Skylar was furious. If he could move, he probably would have gotten out of bed and beaten some sense into Yara.

Yara replied stubbornly, “There’s no one else worthy of me except Joseph.”

Nothing was going to change her mind. She felt depressed. Why did Skylar and Henry keep telling her to leave Joseph? They had no idea how happy she had been when she was with him. Could either of them give her the sense of security he gave her?

Skylar snapped, “Damn it. Did Joseph drug you or something? How are you this obsessed with him?”

Yara responded, “I know what I want, and I know what I’m doing. Why are you saying I’m obsessed? Aren’t I still going to marry Henry? Haven’t you and everyone else been controlling my life since I was a child? When have I ever been allowed to make my own decisions?”

Yara’s frustration boiled over.

Skylar was stunned for a moment before saying, “Whatever the reason, you still can’t be with Joseph.”

Yara chuckled. “Henry won’t allow it either. He isn’t simple at all. You finally woke up, so how are you doing now? Will you recover?”

When everyone was against her being with Joseph, it meant that her choice was correct.

Skylar reassured Yara. “Of course, I’ll recover. You made the right choice by choosing Henry.”

Skylar didn’t say what he was truly thinking. He knew that if Yara didn’t marry Henry soon, he might never recover. As long as he remained Henry’s brother-in-law, Henry would be willing to let him live.

Skylar thought that he should just stay under Henry’s control for now. Once the right opportunity came, he would eliminate Henry and take over the Zahn family. It wasn’t a bad shortcut. In fact, it might be his only way forward.
