blow.

“You could always sell your products through pharmacies!” Joseph said airily to the Byers family representatives, who were complaining that he was leaving them no way to survive.

After all, Jenton’s retail pharmacy market alone was worth over ten billion dollars a year.

The people from the Byers family had barely left when Joseph received a message from Cora, inviting him to dinner. He accepted.

“Dr. Zahn, is the medical sect planning something? Why did you guys suddenly set up your own pharmaceutical operation?” Cora asked.

“You’re making a killing on the Provora project, so don’t start eyeing my little corner of the market too. Besides the hospital business, there’s also pharmacy retail. Have your pharmaceutical team focus on that.”

Joseph said this knowing full well what Cora was after. She wanted a piece of his pie.

“5%.”

Sure enough, Cora proposed that when her company’s drugs were sold to hospitals, they’d go through Joseph’s pharmaceutical company on paper, and she’d give him a kickback.

“If you want to sell your drugs into the hospitals, then why don’t you buy the steel and cement for your Provora project from my construction company as well?

“You’re going to need a huge amount of materials anyway. How about it?”

Joseph took the opportunity to make his own demand.

Cora frowned. “This isn’t how partners treat each other. We’re not supposed to undermine each other.”

“Since we’re partners, we’re in this for the long haul. Naturally, I couldn’t care less about these crumbs in front of me. Tell you what-forget the 5%, and you can keep your company’s business scope exactly as it is.”

Joseph laughed heartily. He might not have been as good as Cora when it came to running the day-to- day operations of a company, but when it came to this tiny slice of the hospital market, he was the one calling the shots.

Pharmaceuticals made up only a very small part of Cora’s Hart Group. The reason she’d come to negotiate with Joseph at all was that she didn’t want to be kicked out of this market entirely.

Her plan was to first secure her existing share of the pharmaceutical market, then take over the Banks, Lowells, and other families’ pharmaceutical business and make her company their middleman.

What she didn’t know was that Joseph had already anticipated this. He agreed for now, but planned to have his people gradually squeeze Cora’s pharmaceutical company out later.
