Chapter 766
And of course, Cora was still a Lowell by blood. As long as she and the family joined forces again, the Lowells would rise to the top once again.
Joseph merely chuckled before leaving.
On his way back, he passed a familiar bar. Seeing that it was still open, he went inside and spotted the trashy woman Skylar had toyed with before.
Anne had switched to a new wig again. This time it was long, wavy hair in alternating streaks of blue and red.
“Joseph? You’re here for a drink at the crack of dawn?”
When Anne recognized Joseph, she poured him a drink unprompted. But Joseph said he wasn’t drinking because he had to drive, so she invited him into her office for some tea instead.
As she poured his tea, she said, “The last time you came was sometime last year, right? Back then you were just a regular doctor. Who would’ve thought you’d become such a notorious big shot?
“These days, just hearing your name is enough to scare the hell out of people.”
“Really? Am I that infamous?”
Joseph was a little surprised, but then it occurred to him that Cora and the others had run a smear campaign against him a while back.
They’d probably made up all kinds of nasty stories, painting him as someone who killed, burned, poisoned, and did every evil thing under the sun.
He took a sip of tea. “But you don’t seem afraid of me. Why’s that?”
“I count as your friend, don’t I? Surely you wouldn’t hurt me.”
Anne smiled, totally unfazed by Joseph.
“Friend? People who get involved with me don’t exactly tend to have happy endings! But since you call me a friend, let me ask you for something-the stuff Skylar left in your keeping.”
“Oh? How did you know about that? Did that Henry Jebb guy sell me out?”
Anne was genuinely surprised.
“Something like that. But that man’s risen to power now-he’s even changed his name to Henry Zahn. He’s going to be a rising star in the Zahn family. If you want to leave the dark side behind, you could always go pledge yourself to him.”
Joseph grinned. “Sure, he’s ugly, but maybe he’s very gentle.”
“Oh, give me a break. Stop playing matchmaker! I’m a looks-first kind of lady! The last time he asked me for it, I quoted him ten million dollars, and he lost interest.

“But if you’re the one who’s asking, I’ll give it to you for free. All I ask is that I can call on you once or
wice in the future when someone needs you to save their life.”
“You get three times.”
Joseph naturally wasn’t going to pay her, but promising to treat and save someone was no burden to
him.
“Deal! It’s a promise!”
Anne was also wary of Joseph’s ruthlessness. Since Joseph had asked for something, she knew that if she refused, he might kill her.
What she didn’t know was that Joseph had only been passing through when the thought of taking Skylar’s item suddenly occurred to him. She assumed he’d come specifically for it.
And if he’d come all this way for it, there was no way he was leaving empty-handed.
“Honestly, it’s nothing much. It’s just a key to a safe deposit box in the underground vault of Jenton Bank. The key alone is useless, though.
“It’s a quadruple-lock system, so a key, passcode, fingerprint, and iris scan are needed.”
Anne readily handed Joseph a box containing the key.
Joseph examined it. It looked rather ordinary, and he asked, “Did Skylar say what’s inside?”
