It took Joseph another two days to go through all the materials Rachel had left behind. Even though he suspected that she had been poisoned, he couldn’t find any evidence in the meantime.

That night, he went to the hospital and woke Skylar. He handed him a photo of the family records and said, ” Skylar, I have great news. I’m now part of the family. Yara and Rhea are my wives.”

Skylar wasn’t exactly surprised. Joseph had plenty of tricks up his sleeve, yet he always kept a low profile. By the time they realized he had been playing them, it was already game over.

Skylar said, “Congratulations. When are you going to let me get discharged and return to my family?”

“I’ll let you get discharged, but I think it’d be better if you stay away from your family. I’ve realized Owen isn’t particularly fond of your branch of the family. He had his reasons for making Yara my wife.”

Joseph put the photo away and pulled out another photo of Rachel at Emerald Mountain.

Skylar asked, “What do you mean by that?”

Joseph replied, “My other father-in-law-your father. Did he ever tell you that my other mother-in-law-your mother-died of poisoning?”

“You… What did you find?” Skylar’s gaze was sharp and wary.

“So you do know something about it! I was just asking. I didn’t realize it was actually true. Could you tell me who poisoned her and why?”

“Are you working for the Yales? Are you here to get revenge?”

“The Yales? Do you really think I’m from your mother’s side of the family?”

“Aren’t you? I’ll tell you exactly what happened. My mother betrayed the Zahns, so she had to pay for it with her life. If you’re looking into the reason she died just to help her clear her name, forget it!”

“Oh? But I don’t even know your mother. Why would I even want to clear her name? I just happened to uncover the family scandal!” Joseph sneered.

He suspected that he was getting caught up in something much bigger, and if he dug any deeper, he would get himself into trouble.

Joseph pulled a photo of Cora and said, “I’m not trying to clear your mother’s name. I just want one woman. I want the most beautiful woman in Jenton to bend to my will.”

“Cora? You already have two wives. You still haven’t given up on her?” Skylar asked skeptically.

But when Joseph pulled out another photo from the album of pretty women, Skylar believed him. He didn’t even bother asking any further. Joseph must have already found out much more than the album.

Joseph remarked. “Can a man ever have two wives? Think about how many lovers and children you have! I’m nowhere close!”
