Chapter 361 Missed Timing

Mason woke up.

He slowly sat up and rubbed his sleepy eyes. He had slept for a long time. His hair, usually neat, was now a mess. A few strands stuck up the wrong way.

He rolled his neck, then turned to look at Amelia. His voice was low and rough from sleep. Is your arm numb?

Amelia nodded stiffly.

A trace of guilt flashed in his eyes. He reached out, placed a warm hand on her shoulder, and gently massaged it with steady pressure.

I’ll drive,he said, then spoke to Tim in the front.

The car pulled over, and the two men switched seats.

But that day, their luck really wasn’t great.

The sky stayed dark and heavy, with no sign of sunlight. The wind was strong and sharp, cutting across their faces like knives. It was cold and harsh.

When they passed scenic viewpoints with amazing views, Amelia and Lily only wrapped their coats tighter. They jumped out, snapped a couple of quick photos, and rushed back into the

warm car.

By a little after four in the afternoon, the drive around the lake ended in a hurry. Their next stop was an old town near the edge of the desert.

As the car entered the old town, fine rain began to fall. Soon, tiny white pellets of snow mixed

into it.

The temperature dropped fast. The whole town sank into a damp, icy gloom.

Mason followed the GPS straight to their booked hotel.

They also had dinner at the hotel restaurant.

Maybe because he had caught up on sleep in the car and then drove the second half of the trip, Mason was clearly tired. After dinner, he went back to the room, took a quick shower, and collapsed onto the bed.

Once again, Amelia lingered in the bathroom for a long time.

She looked at herself in the mirror. Lily’s joke from that morning popped into her head, about doing nothing at night versus getting naughty at night.

Last night, she had been the one to tease him first. And she had been shut down with ease.

So what about tonight?

That little spark of thought quietly crept back in.

She opened her suitcase and took out a slip nightdress she had brought on purpose.

It was a soft pink, with delicate lace along the edges.

It was just a little sexy. Not too revealing. Just enough.

She changed into it, took a deep breath, and worked up her courage before stepping out of the bathroom.

But what greeted her was the steady, even sound of breathing.

Mason was already asleep.

He lay on his side, his back to her, clearly deep in sleep.

All the plans Amelia had prepared in her head were suddenly useless.

She stood by the bed and watched him sleep. His face was calm and peaceful. After a moment, she carefully climbed onto the bed and lay down beside him.

That night, they slept holding each other again, all the way

until morning.

In the middle of the night, just like the night before, he reached out in his sleep and pulled her into his arms. He held her tight, but that was all.

He never even woke up. It felt like a movement carved into his body, something he did without thinking.

Amelia lay wrapped in his arms, listening to his steady heartbeat, wide awake.

Slowly, doubt crept into her heart.

Last night, she had comforted herself by thinking he was simply a gentleman who respected her.

But two nights in a row like this

A thought she didn’t want to face began to circle in her mind.
