Chapter 362 What’s Missing

Amelia was distracted the whole time.

Finished.

Her eyes often drifted past the interesting items in the shops and wandered far away. In her mind, the scenes from the past two nights kept replaying over and over.

His warm arms. The way he pulled her close in his sleep, without even realizing it.

Everything felt so intimate. So natural.

And yet, something was missing.

What was missing was that impulse between a couple. The kind that came with desire. With impulse.

“Amelia? What are you thinking about?” Lily’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts.

Amelia came back to herself and saw Lily holding up a pair of beautiful turquoise earrings, waving them in front of her face. “Look,” Lily said. “Do these suit you? I think they’d look great with your white cashmere dress.”

“Oh, yeah. They’re fine,” Amelia said, forcing a smile. Her eyes were still unfocused.

Lily put the earrings down at last and finally noticed something was off.

She dropped her playful smile, took Amelia by the arm, and pulled her to a quieter corner by the street. She looked at her with concern. “You’ve been spaced out since this morning,” Lily said. “What’s going on? Did you fight with Mason?”

“No,” Amelia said, shaking her head.

“Then what is it?” Lily pressed. “Don’t tell me it’s nothing. You look like you’re carrying a secret on your face.”

Amelia bit her lower lip. She hesitated for a long time.

The questions tangled in her heart felt embarrassing to say out loud.

But if she didn’t say them, she felt like she was going to lose her mind.

She took a deep breath and finally couldn’t hold it in. “Lily, I have something I want to ask you.

“Go on,” Lily said, patting the back of her hand. “We’re best friends. Just say

it.”

“Well…” Amelia’s checks began to burn. She avoided Lily’s eyes and stared at the stone

Finished pavement by her feet. “I feel like… When Mason and I sleep together, he doesn’t touch me at all. He doesn’t even really kiss me. Do you think he just doesn’t find me attractive?”

Lily froze. Her eyes went wide, and her voice jumped up in shock. “What?! You two still haven’t really kissed?”

“No, no-” Amelia hurried to explain, her face even hotter. “We have kissed. But it’s always very light. Just a quick one.

“Only the other night was a little more intense,” she went on, her voice getting softer and more confused. “But even then, he didn’t go any further. Over the last two nights, we’ve been sleeping in the same bed. He just holds me and sleeps. He doesn’t touch me at all.”

The more she spoke, the more upset she felt. All the doubts about herself began to grow wildly, like vines wrapping tighter around her heart.

Was her body not attractive enough?

Or was her personality too boring to spark any interest at all?

Lily listened to her full story. The surprise on her face slowly faded, replaced by a very subtle expression.

She stayed quiet for a moment, then asked carefully, “Amelia, don’t tell me you’re really that unlucky, and you’ve run into another guy who just can’t arouse?”

Amelia’s face changed at once. Her forced calmness had instantly collapsed.

“I–I don’t think it’s that bad,” she muttered. But her voice was weak, and even she didn’t believe it.

How could she be sure?

Back then, she had married into the Rowes under everyone’s blessings and envy. She became Ethan’s wife.

But on their wedding night, what waited for her was not warmth or closeness. It was a cold, separate guest room.

For a long time after that, they carried the title of husband and wife, but nothing else. There was no closeness at all. They even slept in different rooms.

At that time, Amelia hadn’t met Lily yet. She knew almost nothing about relationships. She was as blank as a clean sheet of

paper.

She naïvely believed Ethan’s distance meant respect.
