Chapter 367 Ice And Fire
Cinished
Amelia rushed to the door like she was saving herself from a fire. She opened it, took the bucket of ice from the hotel staff, muttered a quick thank–you, and shut the door again. It felt as if something dangerous was waiting outside.
When she returned to the living room, Mason was still in the same position, calmly watching her. His look clearly said: You really think this will get you out of it?
Amelia braced herself and walked over. She set the bucket on the coffee table, quickly picked up a piece of ice with the small tongs, and popped it into her mouth. The cold eased the burn on her tongue and cooled her overheated thoughts a little.
She figured that as long as she held the ice in her mouth, he couldn’t force her to talk.
Unfortunately, she had underestimated Mason.
She had just sat down on the far end of the couch, about as far from him as possible, when his voice floated over again. “Answer my question.”
Amelia wasn’t sure what she could do.
She pointed at her mouth and forced out a muffled sound through clenched teeth. “C–cold…”
Mason raised an eyebrow. The faint smile on his lips showed that he saw right through her.
“Cold means you can’t talk?” he said slowly. At the same time, he leaned forward, closing the distance between them. The pressure was immediate. “I don’t believe you can keep that ice in your mouth all night.”
He had blocked every way out.
Amelia was cornered. There was nowhere left to retreat.
She stared at his handsome face, now so close; suddenly a bold spark flared inside her.
She jumped up from the couch.
Before Mason could fully react, she placed both hands on his shoulders. One knee pressed into the cushion as she leaned her full weight toward him.
Then she aimed for his lips. She closed her eyes and kissed him, without thinking, without holding back.
Mason truly hadn’t expected this. This gentle, timid woman had never been this bold.
Chapter 367 Ice And Fire
The half–melted ice in Amelia’s mouth made her lips icy cold.
But the moment they touched his, the cold vanished. It was like ice dropped into lava, gone in an instant.
The surprise in Mason’s eyes lasted less than a second. Then something deeper took over.
Almost by instinct, he turned the tables.
One hand quickly slid to the back of her neck. The other wrapped around her slim waist. With one firm motion, he pulled her down, pressing her fully into the soft couch.
Amelia let out a short gasp, but it was quickly swallowed by their passionate kiss.
This kiss carried a hint of punishment. She had challenged him, and he accepted it without restraint.
His calm exterior hid a forceful intensity. He gave her n
e to escape.
Amelia’s mind went dizzy. It felt like she was floating. Breathing became increasingly hard. The air in the room seemed to get thinner, replaced by his clean, commanding presence that wrapped around her completely.
Yet even in that haze, one last thought stayed sharp in her mind. Lily’s assignment.
So, during a brief pause between kisses, the hand that had been hanging weakly at his side began to move.
As if searching for support, she gripped his soft wool sweater. Her fingers turned pale from
tension.
Then, trembling but determined, her hand slipped under the hem of his sweater.
Her fingertips touched his warm, firm skin for the first time.
It was hotter than she had imagined.
Beneath her fingers were hard, clearly defined muscles.
Startled, she pulled back for a second. Then, she gathered her courage and pressed her hand there again, touching him clumsily, unsure, but brave.
The moment her hand touched his abs, Mason’s whole body went rigid.
He stopped kissing her at once and pulled back just a little. He looked down at the woman beneath him. Amelia’s eyes unfocused, her hands still lighting fires all over him.
