Chapter 11
Silas brought Bethany back to the spacious apartment he lived in. He took off his jacket and tossed it onto the couch. Then, he plopped himself down and rolled up his sleeves. “Let’s talk.”
Bethany also sat, deliberately choosing the seat farthest from him.
Silas almost laughed in disbelief. “What, are you afraid I’ll lay a hand on you? I don’t hit women.
“You were the one who walked into the wrong private room that day. You were also the one who proposed to me.
“My family was breathing down my neck, so I agreed. Yet, now, you want a divorce. Care to explain yourself?”
Bethany sighed inwardly. “I wasn’t proposing to you that day, Mr. Brennan. I thought you were Cyrus Brannon, the second son of the Brannon family. This was all a misunderstanding.
“I need to marry him to get what I want. We’ve only been married for two days. I’m sure a divorce won’t affect you.”
Silas curled his lips in a mocking smile. “Cyrus Brannon? Any idea who that man was who harassed you outside the club last night?”
Her eyes widened in disbelief. “Do you mean… that man was Mr. Brannon?”
He scoffed. “Who else would it be? If it were anyone else, the security guards would have intervened ages ago.
Silas replaced all the guards after the incident. The manager also held a meeting with the staff, emphasizing that even the most powerful guests did not have the right to endanger others.
Bethany felt nauseated as soon as she thought of Cyrus‘ face.
Bethany couldn’t believe that Diana would set her up with a scumbag like that. She figured that Diana must’ve lost her mind. Bethany had always known that Diana didn’t love her, but she never imagined she would introduce her to a man like that. Bethany was well aware that she wouldn’t be able to walk away unscathed once she married into the Brannon family. Bethany felt defeated as she thought about her father’s hotel shares. Lowering her head, she muttered, “Thank you, Mr.
Brennan.”
Noticing how dejected she looked, Silas‘ eyes flickered. “If you marry me, you don’t have to worry anymore. I’m confident the Reids won’t go back on their word once this alliance is set. All you have to do is play the role of my wife. I agree to all the conditions you mentioned before.”
Bethany felt her heart stir again. “Really?”
He nodded. “Of course, I wouldn’t lie to you. That said, there are rumors that I’m interested in men, so we’ll need a grand wedding to reshape my public image. Do you have any other questions?”
Bethany was surprised that Silas was gay. “I don’t have any other questions. I just want a copy of your medical report. Is that okay?”
She wasn’t being discriminatory. She just wanted to be sure that the man she was marrying was healthy and free of any questionable diseases.
Silas leaned back lazily on the couch, toying with the lighter in his hand. With a soft click, a flame sprang to life.
He narrowed his eyes and smiled, though it didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Sure. I like men, but that doesn’t mean I’m dirty.”
Bethany chuckled dryly. “I just want to be careful, Mr. Brennan.”
“Alright. I’ll have my father reach out to your family to discuss our wedding.” Silas rose from his seat. “Since we’re married, you should move in sooner rather than later. Married couples don’t live apart.”

Diana had a very pleasant discussion with the Brannons that evening. The Brannons were generous with the betrothal gifts offering a piece of land, a villa, and a sports car.
