Chapter 47
Bethany was at a loss about how to soothe Silas this time. The main thing was that she didn’t even know exactly what he was upset about.
He sat in her ward, his expression cold, eyes fixed on his laptop screen.
But whenever she wanted water, he would get up and hand it to her. When she reached for her phone, he unplugged the charger for her. When she wanted to wipe her hands, he quietly passed her a tissue.
While feeling guilty, Bethany accepted the quiet goodwill beneath his frosty exterior.
She could almost feel his gaze silently telling her not to do anything.
The next day, after spending a night in the hospital, Bethany insisted strongly that she be discharged.
Silas reluctantly agreed.
Back home, Jane prepared a variety of nourishing dishes.
“Mrs. Brennan, you’re far too thin. Mr. Brennan Senior specifically told me to make you more nourishing food to help you regain your strength. When you’re too skinny, your immunity will be weak. Putting on some weight would suit you too!”
Jane kept nagging so much that even Silas couldn’t take it and retreated straight to his room.
Bethany endured Jane’s overbearing care. Honestly, it felt more genuine than any love she’d ever received from her so–called mother.
The next day, Bethany returned to work. William had already found someone to take the head of security position.
“Ms. Porter, are you sure you want to send out the notice to replace the head of security today?”
Bethany nodded. “Yes. This position doesn’t require much higher–level approval. Just inform everyone truthfully, and attach his attendance records and related documents.”
“Understood.”
William’s hands trembled slightly as he prepared the email. He sensed that Bethany had some serious backing. And most importantly, she clearly wasn’t afraid of Antonio.
The head of security was the nephew of Antonio’s wife, Dariel Hart.
When Dariel received the dismissal notice, he rushed straight to Antonio’s office. “Uncle Antonio, what’s going on? Why are you firing me for no reason?”
Antonio was stunned. “Who fired you?”
Dariel was suspicious. “Uncle Antonio, you’re the company’s CEO. Don’t you know? Or are you pretending not to know? I know my attendance hasn’t been perfect, but I’ve done all my work and management tasks without fault. How can you fire me? I’m going to tell Aunt Demi!”
“Dariel, come back here!” Antonio called him back. “I didn’t fire you. Show me that notice.”
When he was done reading, his expression grew increasingly dark.
Dariel said, “Uncle Antonio, don’t tell me you didn’t know about this.”
Antonio was shocked. He hadn’t expected Bethany to be so bold. She really got things done quietly. She was clearly still holding a grudge about his tattling to Diana last time.

“Dariel, this wasn’t me. It was my niece. Demi knows that this hotel originally belonged to my brother–in–law. After he passed, it went to my sister, and now she’s transferred the shares to my niece.”
Dariel was dumbfounded. “What? Uncle Antonio, you’re not the owner?”
Antonio clarified, “I’m the CEO, and I do have some shares.”
Though it wasn’t a large amount…
