A Reborn Bride Pearl Emerging from Dust novel Chapter 940

“Did she really say that?” Mrs. White asked.

“She did,” Jett replied, his annoyance clear. “That’s exactly why I’m upset.”

Mrs. White glanced toward Calliope. “But she doesn’t seem like the type who’d lie. Maybe Blythe’s had some interaction with Silas, and it’s all just a misunderstanding?”

Jett considered it and immediately nodded. “You know, that actually makes a lot of sense!” Without another word, he turned on his heel to find Blythe.

At that moment, Blythe was deep in conversation with Lisette, oblivious to Jett’s approach. He walked straight up to her. “Blythe, I need to talk to you for a minute.”

A knot of dread coiled in Blythe’s gut. She knew Jett had just gone to see Calliope—could that troublesome woman have tried to poison his ear about her? Annoyance flickered across her face.

“Did she say something nasty about me?” Blythe asked.

Jett studied his daughter for a moment before speaking. “Did you spend any time with Silas? Calliope’s husband?”

Blythe’s expression hardened. “Dad, what did she say to you? I’ve known Silas since we were kids—it’s perfectly normal for us to talk now and then. There’s nothing suspicious about it!”

“Don’t tell me she accused me of trying to steal her man?” Blythe scoffed, indignant. “I have no idea why she’s so jealous. There’s absolutely nothing going on with Mr. Myers and me!”

She looked at Jett with wounded innocence. “Dad, you don’t honestly believe her over your own daughter, do you?”

Blythe snorted, exasperated. “It’s your own fault for being so off-putting. He doesn’t want me hanging out with you!”

Lisette’s expression soured—she’d bent over backward for Blythe, and yet here she was, still on the White family’s bad side. It was obvious they favored Calliope. Aside from Blythe, who only needed her for her own plans, none of them had any use for her. Still, she swallowed the sting; her patience would pay off if it got rid of Calliope.

“You handle Robert, okay? I’ll take care of Calliope myself,” Blythe told her.

“Got it,” Lisette replied at once, her voice sharp with determination. “I’ll go track down that lunatic right now.” She gave Blythe a lingering look. “You sure you’ve got things covered with Calliope, Ms. White?”

“Obviously,” Blythe shot back, rolling her eyes.
