The Celestial Tribunal still hadn't made a move.
The golden encampment stood in silence on the Wastelands, as some sleeping beast sprawled across the plain.
A screen of light flashed under the sun, sharp enough to sting the eyes, and nothing beyond it could be seen clearly.
Hadrian stood on the central platform of the camp, looking out into the distance.
Lydia stood beside him.
"Malachy isn't coming," Lydia said.
"I know."
"Windclear isn't coming either."
"I know."
"It's only us."
Hadrian went quiet for a moment, then a smile pulled at his mouth.
"Even if it's only us, we fight."
Lydia looked at him once and said nothing.
"When is Jared coming out of seclusion?" Hadrian asked.
"Don't know." Lydia shook her head. "Maybe the people from the Tribunal are waiting on Jared, too..."
Hadrian nodded.
At that same moment, inside the Pentacarna Tower, Jared sat within the stillness.
He pressed both hands onto the pile of crystals and began drawing out the spiritual power sealed inside them.
Chaotic force moved through his body, pulling the spiritual power from the crystal thread by thread into the spirit well.
Violet radiance flowed around him, growing thicker, growing brighter.
The spiritual power inside the crystals rushed into him without end, like a hundred rivers pouring into the sea.
Under the repeated impact of spiritual power, Jared's meridians kept stretching wider and hardening under the strain. In his spirit well, the chaotic force vortex spun faster and faster, growing larger with every turn.
One emberstone crystal was drained dry and crumbled into ash-white powder.
Then another one emptied out the same way and collapsed into powder, too.
Jared kept his eyes shut. His breathing stayed even, and his whole body sat there like a carved statue, utterly still.
But inside him, everything was being turned upside down.
The chaotic force in his spirit well gathered tighter, compressed further, and refined itself again and again.
All the spiritual power drawn from the crystals was swallowed by the chaotic force, transformed, fused together, and made into power that belonged to him alone.
Time passed soundlessly within the Pentacarna Tower.
On the first day, he absorbed 300 crystals, and his cultivation rose from the peak of True Immortal Realm Level Eight to the peak of True Immortal Realm Level Eight.
On the second day, he absorbed another 500 crystals, and his cultivation broke through to the peak of True Immortal Realm Level Eight.
The third day. The fourth day. The fifth day...
One emberstone crystal after another was sucked dry and reduced to ash-white powder.
In front of Jared, the powder piled up into a small hill.
On the tenth day, he absorbed 3,000 crystals, and his cultivation broke through to True Immortal Realm Level Nine.
On the fiftieth day, he absorbed another 5,000 crystals, and his cultivation broke through to the peak of True Immortal Realm Level Nine.
On the hundredth day, he absorbed the last 2,000 crystals, and his cultivation broke through to High Immortal Realm Level Nine.
Jared opened his eyes.
His eyes had changed. They were no longer ordinary black, but a deep violet, and within his pupils, it looked as though stars were slowly turning.
Violet radiance curled around his body. It wasn't violent. It stayed quiet instead, like a sleeping dragon coiled in stillness.
He could tell the chaotic force inside him was several times stronger than before. His meridians were several times wider than before. His physical body was several times tougher than before.
He rose to his feet and clenched his fist.
The air was cold and sweet, carrying that clean scent the snow mountains always held.
Then he saw Gwendolyn.
She stood at the mouth of the cave, dressed in white as pure as snow, her long black hair falling behind her.
Her face gave almost nothing away, but in her eyes there was a thread of strain Jared had never seen before.
"Something happened?" Jared asked.
"It did," Gwendolyn said. "The Tribunal sent out a full army. They're attacking the Skywolf Tribe right now. Hadrian Wolfhowe sent someone to find you just a little while ago, but you were still in seclusion, so I had him go to Lydia Wraithmoor instead."
Jared's brow pulled tight.
"When did this happen?"
"A whole day has passed. No one knows whether the Skywolf Tribe can keep holding on."
"The Skywolf Tribe asked Shadow Hall and the Wandering Cultivators Alliance for help, but Malachy Vane and Windclear are still waiting to see how this plays out. No one dares make a move," Gwendolyn said.
Jared stood there in silence for a moment.
"Hadrian should be able to hold out for one day. I'm going to Shadow Hall and the Wandering Cultivators Alliance right now. If they refuse to help, then they become enemies of mine."
A cold gleam flashed through Jared's eyes. Now that he had reached High Immortal Realm Level Nine, he finally had the strength to fight the Tribunal Venerable head-on.
Gwendolyn looked at him. "You're going to Shadow Hall alone? Malachy isn't someone you can talk into this so easily."
Jared gave a small smile. "Easy or not, he still has to be persuaded. The Skywolf Tribe offended the Tribunal because they were helping us. We can't just stand by and watch them get wiped out."
He turned toward Shadow Hall.
Then he stepped into the air, his body streaking upward as a purple beam of light, and vanished into the horizon.
Gwendolyn watched his back for a long time without saying a word.
This Jared really did value loyalty and bonds.
If not for the burden she carried, Gwendolyn might truly have stayed by his side the whole way.
