The King Of Warriors novel (Jared Chance) novel Chapter 6375

"Are you sure?"

"I am."

Rowan ground his teeth. "Fine. I believe you."

At dawn the next morning, the iron cell doors swung open.

Celestial cultivators stood in the corridor with whips in their hands, shouting at the top of their lungs.

"Up! On your feet! Get to work!"

One by one, the prisoners shuffled out of their cells. They formed a long line and moved toward the outside of the prison.

Heavy shackles were locked around their ankles. Sealing sigils were carved into the metal, and not a trace of spiritual power could move through them.

Every head stayed lowered. Their steps dragged and staggered, and the whole line looked less like living men than a pack of walking corpses.

Jared, Gwendolyn, and Alaric Winterborne stayed buried in the crowd and followed the line out of the prison.

The mine lay to the north of the prison, a massive open pit carved into the ground.

The bottom of the pit was heaped with black ore. All around it, miners swung pickaxes into the rock, each blow sending out a dull, heavy clang.

Celestial cultivators stood around the rim of the pit with longswords in hand. Their eyes swept back and forth over the mine, sharp and predatory.

At the highest point of the pit stood the stone dais. Seated on it was a towering celestial warriorβ€”the gaoler, a True Immortal Realm Level Eight.

Jared was assigned to the deepest part of the pit. More than a dozen other prisoners were thrown in with him to mine ore.

He took the pickaxe and bent down to strike the rock. But while his hands worked, his eyes kept tracking the positions of the guards around him.

There were fewer guards here than inside the prison, but there were still more than a hundred of them.

The gaoler sat above the entire mine, looking down over everything. Even the slightest disturbance would not have slipped past his eyes.

Jared did not move too soon.

He was waiting for the opening.

By noon, the sun had climbed to its highest point. The light poured straight into the pit, and waves of heat rolled through it without letup.

The guards began changing shifts. Up on the high ground, even the gaoler closed his eyes, as if he were dozing.

Jared set down the pickaxe and straightened. Then he started walking toward the edge of the pit.

"What are you doing? Get back!" A celestial cultivator strode toward him with a whip lifting into the air.

Jared did not stop. He walked right up to the celestial cultivator, lifted a hand, and pressed it against the man's chest.

Chaos-flame burst out of his palm. The cultivator did not even get the chance to scream before he turned into a pile of ash.

Jared turned and looked over everyone in the pit. His voice was not loud, but it carried cleanly into every ear.

"Move."

Rowan moved first.

The pickaxe in his hands swung straight at the celestial cultivator beside him. It smashed into the man's head, and blood sprayed out.

He dropped to the body at once, felt around until he found the key, then unlocked the shackles on his own feet.

The spiritual power that had been sealed came surging back through his body. The aura of a True Immortal Realm Level Seven cultivator burst free, and even the air in the mine pit started to shudder.

"Brothers, kill them!"

All 537 human cultivators erupted at the same time.

Some came at the celestial cultivators near them with pickaxes. Some grabbed stones. Some used their bare fists. All of them lunged at the celestials by their side.

The celestial cultivators were caught completely off guard, and for a moment their whole formation broke into chaos.

But the gaoler reacted fast.

He rose from the stone dais, holy radiance flowing around him in golden currents. The pressure of a True Immortal Realm Level Eight cultivator dropped over the mine pit like a mountain.

"Court death!" he roared, and slapped his palm down toward the mine pit.

A golden palm print blotted out the sky and crushed down toward the crowd.

Jared stepped in front of it.

He drew the Dragonslayer Sword. Purple chaotic force ran along the blade, and he cut downward with a single strike.

The purple blade-flare slammed into the golden palm print. There was no explosion. No thunderous crash. In front of the chaotic force, the palm print was as flimsy as paper. It was ripped apart, swallowed up, and erased in an instant.

The gaoler's pupils shrank. "Chaotic force? You're the one who killed Lucian Gold!"

Jared gave him nothing back.

He took one step forward. His figure left an afterimage in the void, and in the next instant he was already in front of the gaoler.

The Dragonslayer Sword drove forward with purple chaos-flame wrapped around it, stabbing straight for the gaoler's chest.

The gaoler pushed his holy radiance with everything he had and condensed a golden light-shield in front of himself.

The light-shield had five layers, and every single layer carried the celestials' supreme laws of the realm.

The Dragonslayer Sword struck the first layer, and it shattered.

The second layer shattered.

Then the third. The fourth. The fifth.

The Dragonslayer Sword punched through all five layers of the light-shield without a sound, like a red-hot iron rod driven through butter.

The color drained out of the gaoler's face.

He tried to pull back.
