The King Of Warriors novel (Jared Chance) novel Chapter 6434

Jared gave no answer. His face stayed calm, without a ripple.

But beneath that still surface, the weight of every farewell and every thing he could not accept pressed down without end.

He raised his hand and drew the Dragonslayer Sword. Cold light flashed from the blade, and violet chaos-flame roared to life along it.

He pushed upward against the current and faced the Golden Immortal dominion head-on. He would not lower his head. He would not bend his knees.

Gwendolyn stood beside him, the Frostbrand steady in her hand.

Icy divine radiance guarded her body, but her face had gone pale and worn thin.

The hand wrapped around her sword, however, held firm as stone. In her eyes lay the hard finish of a choice already made: through life or death, she would stay with him and never leave.

Alaric bent forward in salute, his manner respectful as he asked for instruction.

"Grand Elders, these two are the ones who brought chaos to the Northern Marches."

"They destroyed our Three Dreadholds and killed two war champions of the celestials. They are the chief criminals behind it all."

"Please take action, elders. Execute them here and now, restore celestial authority, and make the four directions take warning."

Venerable Emberlain lowered his eyes and swept a glance over them, casual and cold, as if the sight barely deserved the effort.

He looked at Jared the way a man might inspect some useless object, and even his voice came out lazy.

"True Immortal Realm Level Three. A meagre chaotic force. There is a trace of ancient nascence in it, at least."

"Barely worth looking at. Too bad your cultivation level is far too low. An ant is still an ant."

The corner of Venerable Frostgrave's mouth hooked upward, the curve thin enough to cut, and his voice came down cold.

"No matter how rare chaotic force may be, no matter how exceptional the talent, it still cannot cross the gulf between cultivation levels."

"A True Immortal ant dares act wild before a Golden Immortal? One casual hand is enough to crush him dead."

Jared turned his head toward Gwendolyn and forced his voice down until it was almost buried under the pressure around them.

The last thin edge of a plea remained in it. "You should go too. Before this battle begins, before their pressure locks down the space, tear open the void and leave right now."

"If you stay, there is only one road left, and it ends in death. It means nothing."

"Live. See what comes after this for me."

Gwendolyn shook her head lightly. Her gaze stayed clear and unbroken, like still water that refused to move.

"I won't go. You are alone. You cannot withstand the combined strike of the two Golden Immortals."

"If you die, there is no point in me surviving by myself. If we live, we live together. If we die, we die together."

Jared's throat drew tight. A thousand words jammed up inside him, none of them able to get out.

He could not make her leave. And he could not bring himself to keep trying.

Silence held for a moment. Then a hard finality passed through his eyes, and his voice dropped low.

"Fine. Then we hold together, fight together, and guard Freevale's last stretch together."

Venerable Emberlain had no interest in wasting any more time. He raised his hand first and made his move.

The motion was careless, almost weightless, with no sign that it cost him anything at all.

In his palm, a mass of golden saintfire gathered, pure to a terrifying degree.

The flame burned hot and fierce, scorching the void itself. All the air around it caught, twisting under the heat.

Ripple after ripple spread through the void, and the temperature climbed into something monstrous.

With one light push of his hand, the golden saintfire condensed into a fire dragon, roaring as it tore forward.

It carried the force to burn mountains and boil seas, then crushed straight down toward Jared.

A strike from a Golden Immortal needed no buildup. It needed no technique.

Something that simple already held the power to wreck heaven and earth.

Jared would not dodge. He would not step back.

He clenched his teeth and drove the last remnants of chaotic force inside him with everything he had left.

Chaos-flame surged across the Dragonslayer Sword, and purple blazing firelight shot up into the sky.

He met the golden fire dragon head-on, using a mortal body to withstand a Golden Immortal, using that meager power to rise against Heavenly Law.

Boomβ€”!

The difference between them was too vast. Weak and strong stood separated like earth from sky.

The violet Chaotic True Flame held for only a single breath.

Then the golden saintfire dragon swallowed it whole and burned it clean out of existence.

It never had the strength to push back.

The remaining force crashed down with it, rolling straight over Jared and slamming hard into his body.

Jared was thrown backward like a kite with its string cut, his whole body hurled through the air.

He smashed heavily upon Freevale's ramparts.

With a thunderous boom, the city walls collapsed and split apart.

Broken stone flew in every direction. Dust flooded the sky, and more than half his body disappeared beneath the rubble.

Pain tore through him from head to toe. His blood surged backward through his veins, and he coughed up mouthfuls of golden blood essence.

Every old wound broke open again, and the fracture in his left arm worsened.

A wide blackened burn spread across his chest, the flesh there scorched and rotting apart.

The pain nearly dragged him into darkness.

He forced it down and clawed his way out of the shattered stone with everything he had left.

Blood and grime covered him. He looked ruined, his strength draining away fast, his whole body going slack.

"That's all you've got?" Venerable Emberlain shook his head with a cold sneer, disappointment written across his face.

"Chaotic force. Empty reputation, nothing more. It can't even take one hit."
