Josephine’s expression turned grave.
She could feel the force packed inside that golden orb.
This was not an ordinary strike from a Golden Immortal Level Four cultivator. It was a killing move forged from the core inheritance of the Hall of Radiance, powerful enough to obliterate any Golden Immortal Level Three cultivator outright.
But she did not dodge.
Not because she couldn’t.
Because she wouldn’t.
Her people were behind her.
Those True Immortal demon cultivators could never withstand shockwaves from an attack on this level. If she moved aside and let the orb hit the passage, the blast alone would leave them all gravely wounded—and the weaker ones would die on the spot.
Josephine drew in a deep breath.
The Inferno Devil bloodline inside her roared to life, and dark red primal fire burst from every pore in her body, wrapping around her in a flame armor several feet thick.
She crossed both hands in front of her.
The primal fire in her palms condensed into a dark red sword, its blade covered in dense Inferno Devil runes. Every rune burned. Every rune howled. Every rune seemed hungry to reduce everything in front of her to ash.
“Inferno Devil Severance!”
Josephine barked the words and brought the dark red fire sword down in a savage arc, meeting the golden orb head-on.
Rumble—!
This explosion was several times more violent than the last.
Golden holy radiance and dark red primal fire tore into each other at the point of impact.
The two opposite flames countered and annihilated one another, releasing a shock of power so fierce it almost defied belief.
The shockwave ripped outward in every direction.
Cracks spiderwebbed across the ice walls on both sides of the passage, and huge slabs of ice crystal broke from the ceiling and crashed down, exploding into a storm of frozen shards.
The ground was blasted open into a crater several yards wide.
The ice at the bottom had been completely stripped away, exposing the black rock beneath.
The shockwave picked Josephine up and hurled her backward. She spun through the air, then slammed hard into the ice gate at the end of the passage with a heavy, bone-jarring thud.
Dark-crimson blood spilled from the corner of her mouth, ran down her chin, and dripped onto her dark-crimson gown, staining the hem a deeper, uglier red.
Both arms trembled violently.
The splits in the webbing between her thumbs and forefingers had torn wider, and blood slid off her fingertips to gather into a small pool at her feet.
The primal fire in her palms had dimmed badly. Even the deep-red luminous tracery inside the dark-crimson flame flickered in and out, a clear sign that her spiritual power was running dry.
But she still didn't go down.
Bracing herself against the ice gate, she pushed herself upright inch by inch and wiped the blood from her mouth.
Her dark-crimson eyes stayed locked on the middle-aged man ahead of her, and the stubbornness and killing intent in them hadn't weakened in the slightest.
"My lady!"
Behind her, the demon cultivators shouted in alarm.
The Golden Immortal Level Three demon cultivator rushed to her side to help her up, but she shoved him away before he could touch her.
"I'm fine."
Josephine's voice came out rough, but her tone never wavered.
"All of you, fall back. Stay away from the battlefield."
"But my lady, you're hurt..."
"I said fall back!"
Josephine's voice turned cold in an instant, sharp with an authority that left no room for argument.
The demon cultivator clenched his jaw, but in the end he still withdrew with the others to the bend in the passage, leaving the battlefield to Josephine and the Hall of Radiance.
The middle-aged man looked at Josephine, and the surprise in his eyes hardened into something far more serious.
That move of his, Saintlight Judgement, was enough to kill any Golden Immortal Level Three cultivator.
It could even threaten a Golden Immortal Level Four.
But this witch, only at the peak of Golden Immortal Level Three, had taken it head-on. She was hurt, yes, but she hadn't lost the ability to fight.
