The King Of Warriors novel (Jared Chance) novel Chapter 6741

Orion Starcrest, patriarch of the Starcrest family, sat at the far edge of the chamber. Faint silver starlight surrounded him, making him resemble a shadowed star wrapped in a galaxy. His features were almost impossible to see.

Silence was his habit, and his thoughts remained opaque to everyone around him.

"Alaric, what happened that you had to summon us so urgently?" Lucien asked, setting down his cup. His voice was as smooth as polished jade.

Alaric looked at the two men. "My eldest son and heir was killed in the Twentieth Firmament. His soul was destroyed."

Lucien's smile faltered.

The starlight around Orion flickered once before settling again.

"This happened in the Twentieth Firmament?"

Lucien frowned slightly. "Is there really anyone in a place like that capable of killing your heir?"

"A cultivator of the Aureate Way named Jared Chance," Alaric replied. "There was a man of indeterminate cultivation beside him who killed my son and the seven Grand Zenith Immortal elders he brought with him using only a single glance."

Silence held the chamber for a moment.

Lucien tapped the tabletop twice. "One glance to kill seven Grand Zenith Immortals? Alaric, are you certain the report is reliable?"

"My steward would not dare lie to me," Alaric said coldly. "Moreover, the celestial forces in the Twentieth Firmament have been completely purged. Aureon is dead as well."

Lucien's brow furrowed more deeply.

Aureon might have been only a member of a collateral branch whom the Suncrest family had sent to the lower firmaments, but he had represented the dignity of the celestials.

The three families had jointly selected him to command the celestial forces beneath the Twentieth Firmament.

Only those celestials who reached the Grand Zenith Immortal realm could glimpse even one corner of their race's true power.

The celestial cultivators below the Twentieth Firmament were like frogs at the bottom of a well, unaware of the wider world. In their eyes, the Celestial Emperor of the Twentieth Firmament was the highest authority in existence.

They could never know that the so-called Celestial Emperor was merely a member of a collateral branch in the eyes of the true celestial hierarchy, someone whose replacement the families could agree on whenever they wished.

The death of a collateral descendant could be dismissed as an accident. The death of an eldest son and heir was another matter entirely.

"What do you intend to do?" Lucien asked.

"Send people to the Twentieth Firmament," Alaric answered. "Find out exactly who Jared Chance is and where that middle-aged man came from. If Jared dares set foot in the Twenty-First Firmament, he will remain there forever."

Lucien and Orion exchanged a glance. Lucien nodded slightly. "The Silvermoon family will cooperate.

"The Twenty-First Firmament is under our jurisdiction, after all. If someone is stirring up trouble below us, the matter should be investigated."

After a moment of silence, Orion said, "The Starcrest family can provide intelligence support. We will not take part in any overt action."

Alaric glanced at him but said nothing more.

The Starcrest family had always operated that way. No intelligence network in the Twenty-First Firmament rivaled theirs. They never took part in open operations, however.

Their willingness to provide information was enough.

"We have an agreement, then."

Alaric stood, golden divine fire surging around him. "Send someone to the Twentieth Firmament and uncover everything about Jared Chance. If he dares come here, make certain he never leaves."

"Whom will you send?" Lucien asked.

No one spoke.

Alaric's eldest son had been a disciple of the Divine Sovereign of Time, yet he and several Grand Zenith Immortals had been killed in an instant. Who would dare go after that?

"Orion, perhaps you could send someone. Your intelligence network is the most..."

"Stop. I am sending no one."
