Jared rose, his violet eyes gleaming darkly beneath the luminous pearls. "What if I told you that I am absolutely certain I can beat him?"
Calder frowned slightly. "What makes you so certain?"
Jared paused, then said, "Fight me, Calder."
The plaza went silent at once.
Every gaze fixed upon Jared. Some people gaped, some drew sharp breaths, and others looked openly incredulous.
Calder was the strongest cultivator in the Water Clan and stood at the peak of Grand Zenith Immortal Level Two.
Although Jared had reached Golden Immortal Level Six, the distance between him and a Grand Zenith Immortal still appeared as impassable as a chasm.
"Are you sure?" Calder asked with an unreadable calm.
"I am."
Jared did not hesitate. "If you defeat me, I won't return to Azurewave Island. If you can't, let me go."
Calder said nothing for a long while, his ocean-dark eyes resting steadily on Jared.
At last, he rose. His silver-white hair flowed like liquid mercury beneath the pearl light. "Very well. We'll fight in the center of the plaza, and the test will last three moves. If you withstand all three, you win."
The crowd retreated and cleared a broad space at the center of the plaza.
Blue radiance streamed from the seaweed and brightly illuminated the open water.
Calder took his position in the middle. His silver-white hair drifted soundlessly, and pale blue light circulated around him.
An immense, unwavering pressure surrounded him, giving the impression that he held the weight of the deep sea within his body.
Calder lifted his right hand. "Here comes the first."
His figure blurred and became a silver-white arrow of water that appeared before Jared in an instant.
Calder struck with his right palm. The vast force of a cultivator at the peak of Grand Zenith Immortal Level Two pressed down on Jared like an invisible mountain.
Where the palm wind passed, the water compressed into a thin white line and emitted a piercing whistle.
Kael's expression changed sharply.
That palm strike could have shattered a small island.
Jared did not retreat.
Jared brought up his right hand, releasing gray chaotic force. The energy gathered in front of him and took the shape of a gray-violet shield.
The barrier was only an inch thick, but fine gray patterns traveled across its surface. Like a net weaving itself without end, they continuously absorbed, digested, and transformed the immense force approaching them.
Calder's palm imprint struck the shield with a muffled boom.
A golden shock wave swept outward and forced the nearby Water Clan cultivators to stumble back.
Jared, however, remained perfectly still.
Stable gray light continued to flow through the shield as if it had borne no force at all.
Calder's pupils narrowed. "Chaotic force truly has an astonishing capacity to absorb and transform power."
Calder drew back his hand and shifted one pace away. Now wholly serious, he warned, "Second move. I won't hold back this time."
He lifted both hands. Blue light gathered, compressed, and spun within his palms, becoming two spheres shaped like miniature whirlpools.
Exceptionally dense power of laws filled them. The surrounding seawater spun faster and faster, producing one violent undercurrent after another.
Calder thrust both spheres forward at once. They flanked Jared from left and right, moving with the speed of lightning and the precision of needles.
