A Warrior's Second Chance (Faye and Alexander) novel Chapter 387

Chapter 387

STONEVALE PACK

There was no mistaking it.

The threat sat there, clear and deliberate.

Janet didn’t move.

Didn’t step back.

But something in her expression changed.

Are you threatening me?she asked.

Her voice was quiet.

Yes,Darren said.

There was a brief pause.

And if you fail me,” he continued, his tone lowering further, something darker settling into it now, you’ll

regret ever getting involved in this.”

He held her gaze deliberately.

Regret ever crossing me.”

The air between them was thick now.

How dare you,” Janet said.

The calm cracked.

In my own chambers?she added, her voice rising just slightly, her eyes narrowing as her temper burned

beneath the surface. You walk in here, uninvited, careless, loud-

She took a step toward him.

And then you threaten me?

There was something dangerous in the way she said it now.

I could end you right here,” Janet added.

Darren didn’t flinch. He didn’t even blink.

And then-

He laughed.

Like the threat didn’t land the way it was supposed to.

Chapter 387

Yes,he said, nodding once. You could.

He tilted his head slightly, studying her.

I know that.

There was no fear in his voice.

But you won’t.

Janet’s attention sharpened again as Darren spoke.

Because,” Darren went on, his voice steady now, almost conversational in contrast to what he was saying, you have too much to gain from this.

He held her gaze.

And you’re not the type to walk away from something that benefits you.

BLOOD CRESCENT

FAYE

The sound of impact filled the space

I didn’t need to ask where he was.

I followed it.

Stepping into the training area, my eyes landed on him immediately. Alexander stood with his back to me, his movements sharp and deliberate, every strike landing like he was working something out of his system.

I slowed.

Watched and waited.

Nothing.

No pause, no glance. He didn’t react to my presence like he used to.

My lips pressed together slightly.

He knew I was here.

There was no way he didn’t.

And still-

Nothing.

I shifted my weight, irritation creeping in. But I couldn’t blame him for ignoring meat least not entirely.

Chapter 387

Of course,I muttered under my breath.

I pushed off where I stood and walked toward him.

Closer.

Still nothing.

Not even a flicker of hesitation in his movements.

That only made it worse.

I stopped just behind him now, close enough to feel the air shift with each movement he made.

And he still didn’t look at me.

A small, disbelieving huff left me.

So that was how it was going to be.

He had every right to be mad, but he should at least look at me and say whatever was on his mind.

Fine.

I stepped forward.

Right into his spacedeliberately.

There was no way he could ignore that.

His arm moved before thought could catch upcutting through the air in a strike that nearly landed on me.

It didn’t

He caught himself.

Barely.

Though I felt his knuckle brush me lightly.

I jerked back dramatically, letting out a sharp sound, my hand going straight to my side as I bent slightly.

Ah

Faye

He froze for a second.

That got him.

His voice was sharp now, alert, his eyes already on me as he stepped closer.

Are you-

I’m fine,” I said quickly, still holding my side like it hurt.

He didn’t look convinced.

I didn’t hit you, did I?he said, his gaze narrowing slightly as he looked at where my hand was. Let me

see.”

I stayed like that for a second longer.

Then straightened.

Just enough.

And that was all it took.

He saw it.

The act.

His expression shifted instantly.

The concern disappeared.

Replaced by something colder.

He stepped back, putting space between us like it was intentional.

What was that?he asked, his voice low.

I shrugged.

You were ignoring me.

That doesn’t answer the question,Alexander said.

It worked, didn’t it?

That didn’t help.

At all.

His jaw tightened.

You stepped into a strike,” he said. What exactly did you think was going to happen?

I knew you’d stop.

His eyes hardened slightly. That’s not the point.

I tilted my head just a little. “Well, you didn’t hit me.”

That is notthe point,he repeated, sharper this time.

I held his gaze for a second, then exhaled.

I just needed your attention,” I said. Now I have it.”

That only seemed to irritate him more. Seriously, Faye

Chapter 387

And even if you had hit me,I added, more quietly now, it wouldn’t have been that bad.

He stilled slightly at that.

Faye-

I’m serious,I cut in. I deserve it.”

There was a pause.

A brief one.

For what I did.

His expression didn’t soften.

Not even a little.

Don’t do that again,” Alexander said. He was still talking about me almost getting hit. Ever.

I nodded.

Quickly.

I won’t,” I said, meaning it.

I hesitated for a second, then exhaled.

I’m sorry, Alexander,I added.

The words came quieter this time.

For earlier.

For the slap.

For everything.

20 Pents

I dropped my gaze briefly, my fingers curling slightly at my side. Saying it out loud only made it feel worse.

I shouldn’t have done that,I continued. I don’t even-I shook my head lightly.

He sighed, then folded his arms across his chest.

I don’t know what came over meyou know I wouldn’t do that on purpose, right?I said.

There was a pause.

He had his eyes on me for a moment.

Then

Why did you do it?
