Chapter 394
FAYE
“Show me what you and Alexander usually do,” I said, folding my arms loosely as I watched
him.
If I was going to do this, I needed something to work with.
Roman nodded and got into position without question.
He moved through a set of routines. I recognized the structure immediately… nothing I
couldn’t follow.
I watched carefully, my eyes tracking every step, every shift in balance.
And for a moment, I almost slipped into it.
Almost.
But then something in me pulled back again.
A quiet tension.
A warning.
“This is probably a bad idea,” I said suddenly, straightening a little as I exhaled.
Roman paused, looking at me.
“What is?”
“This,” I said, gesturing vaguely between us. “Training you. Right now.”
He didn’t look convinced.
“I’m fine with it,” he said.
I let out a small, humorless breath.
“That’s not what I mean.”
I ran a hand lightly through my hair, glancing away for a second before looking back at him.
“You saw what happened the other day, didn’t you?” I added. “During training.”
There was no point pretending.

Not with him.
Not when he had been there.
Roman didn’t answer immediately.
He just looked at me.
Then he smirked.
“I’m not afraid,” he said simply. “And I trust you, Luna Faye.”
That-
That caught me off guard.
For a second, I just stared at him.

Then I let out a short breath that almost turned into a laugh as I shook my head and walked over to the side, dropping down onto the bench nearby.
“That’s funny,” I said, more to myself than to him.
I leaned forward slightly, resting my elbows on my knees.
“Really funny.”
Roman didn’t move.
Didn’t interrupt.
He just stood there, waiting.
I shook my head again, a small, disbelieving smile tugging at my lips before it faded just as quickly.
“It’s funny that you’re standing there talking about trusting me,” I said slowly, glancing up at him, “when just yesterday, I was trying to convince Alexander to send you away.”
That got his attention.
I saw it immediately.
The shift in his expression.
Surprise.
But still, he didn’t speak.

Didn’t react beyond that.
Which somehow made it worse.
A small knot formed in my stomach.
I looked away briefly, exhaling under my breath.
“I didn’t trust you,” I added, quieter now.
The words felt heavier out loud.
More real.
I rubbed my palms together slightly, like I was trying to ground myself before continuing
“When
you said you had the same dream as me,” I went on. “Not just that… you understood parts of it. Words I didn’t even recognize.”
I shook my head faintly.
“Something about that just-” I stopped, pressing my lips together before finishing the thought. “It didn’t sit right with me.”
I glanced back up at him.
“And then suddenly I was angry,” I admitted. “More than I should have been.”
That part still bothered me.
More than anything else.
“The kind of angry that doesn’t even have a good reason behind it,” I added under my breath.
I let the silence sit for a second before continuing.
“I wanted you gone,” I said plainly. “And the only reason you’re still here is because Alexander refused to listen to me.”
There it was.
All of it.
Out in the open.
I exhaled slowly, my gaze lingering on him now, searching his face without even realizing it.
“And you’re still standing here telling me you trust me,” I said.

Then-
“Do you still trust me now?”

For a second, he just stood there, like he was thinking through what I had said, weighing it properly instead of brushing it off.
Then he took a slow breath and walked over, closing the distance between us before lowering
himself onto the bench beside me.
“I do,” he said finally.
I turned my head slightly to look at him.
He kept his gaze forward at first, then glanced at me briefly before continuing.
“You stood up for me,” he said. “When I was a stranger. Not just a stranger… a suspicious
one.”
A faint, almost humorless smile touched his lips.
“No one in their right mind would have wanted me around.”
I didn’t say anything.
Because he wasn’t wrong.
“And still,” he went on, “you didn’t turn me away.”
His voice was calm.
“You made this place feel like… somewhere I could stay. Somewhere I could belong.”
Something in my chest shifted slightly at that.
I looked away.
“So I don’t really have a reason not to trust you,” he added.
There was a small pause.
Then-
“And you were right.”
His expression had changed.

More serious now.
“After what happened with that dream… you had every reason to feel threatened by me.” he
said.
I blinked slightly.
I
“Even I don’t understand it,” he continued. “I’m still trying to make sense of it myself”
A quiet breath left him.
“Because there’s no reasonable explanation for any of it.”
Silence settled between us after that.
I shook my head slightly, letting out a small breath.
“No,” I said. “You don’t understand.”
He looked at me again.
“What do you mean?”
I leaned back slightly, my gaze drifting ahead as I tried to find the right words.
“I’m not exactly… normal either,” I said.
That was putting it lightly.
“I’ve seen things,” I continued. “Things other people didn’t see.”
My fingers moved absently against my wrist, brushing over that same spot again without me thinking about it, because it wouldn’t stop heating up.
“I’ve done things I can’t explain,” I added. “Things I don’t even fully understand.”
I gave a small shake of my head.
“It just… happens.”
No control, no warning, no choice.
“And yet,” I added, a hint of frustration creeping in, “here I was, reacting like that toward you… just because you could make sense of a few words from some ancient chant in a dream.”
I laughed.
“Like that somehow made you the only strange one in the room.”

The irony of it sat heavily.
For a moment, neither of us spoke.
The air felt still around us.
Then-
“What’s that?” Roman asked.
I frowned slightly, turning my head toward him.
“What is what?”
He gestured toward my hand.
My wrist.
I followed his gaze.
Oh.
That.

“I don’t really know,” I said carelessly, like it wasn’t worth much thought. “It’s just been… there.
I brushed over it again lightly.
“It feels a little warm. That’s all.”
Roman leaned forward slightly, his attention sharpening.
“Can I see?”
