Chapter 393
FAYE
“Really?”
The word came out in surprise.
Roman didn’t hesitate. “Yes.”
Just like that.
I stared at him for a second too long, my fingers still resting lightly on the edge of the door.
Of course.
Of course Alexander would do something like this.

He had done it before–making me attend meetings I only got to hear about at the last minute.
A quiet breath left me as I leaned slightly against the doorframe, my mind already starting to turn.
Why would Alexander put this on me without saying anything?
No warning.
No explanation.
Nothing.
He just… left.
And handed me responsibility on his way out like it was nothing.
I wasn’t even in the right headspace for this… he knew that.
I barely felt steady enough to trust myself, let alone take charge of someone else’s training- especially Roman’s.
And that made it worse.
Because this wasn’t just anyone.
This was Roman.
Which meant I couldn’t just say no.
I couldn’t brush him off or send him away.
He was standing right in front of me, waiting, looking like he already expected me to take over

without question.
And now I had to figure it out.
Somehow.
I didn’t even know where Alexander had stopped with him.
What routine they followed.
What he had already been taught.
What he still needed.
Nothing.
I pressed my lips together slightly.
Fine.
I’d deal with it.
But Alexander was definitely going to answer for this when he got back.
That thought settled firmly in my chest.
Roman was still standing there.
Waiting.
Of course he was.
I straightened slightly, pushing all of that aside for now.
“Go ahead and wait at the training ground,” I said finally. “I’ll join you there.”
Roman nodded immediately.
“Okay.”
I didn’t say anything else.
Just gave a small nod in return and pulled the door shut.
ROMAN
The door clicked shut in front of me, and for a moment, I just stood there staring at it.
Waiting.

Chapter 393
Listening.
Like something might change if I gave it a second longer.
Then I exhaled quietly, shifting my weight back.
I should go to the training ground.
That was what she said.
What she expected.
But I didn’t move.
Because this wasn’t really about training.
Not for me.
My jaw tightened slightly as I glanced down the corridor, then back at the door.

Alpha Alexander’s voice echoed in my head, the way it always did when he meant something.
Watch over her.
Don’t make it obvious.
That part mattered.
More than anything else.
Which meant I couldn’t just follow her around like a shadow.
I had to be there…
Without looking like I was there.
So I lied.
The training.
It had come to me quickly, and it made sense.
It fit.
I knew Luna Faye.
Not well.
Not in the way the others did.
But enough.
Chapter 393
Enough to know she wouldn’t turn away someone asking for guidance.
Not when it came to training.
Not when it came to something like that.
I had seen her on the field before.
Watched the way she moved.
The way others responded to her.
She took it seriously.
So I took the chance.
And it worked.
A small breath left me, something close to relief settling in my chest.
She didn’t question it too much.
Didn’t turn me away.
She accepted it.
Just like I thought she would.
Still-
I didn’t feel good about it.
Not entirely.
Lying to her wasn’t something I would normally do.
But this wasn’t normal.
And Alpha trusted me with this.
That meant something.
That meant I had to get it right.
So I stayed.
Right where I was.
Because if the goal was not to let her out of my sight-
Then leaving now would defeat the whole purpose.

The hallway was quiet.
I shifted slightly, folding my arms loosely, my gaze drifting back to the door again.
Waiting.
A few seconds passed.
Then more.
I could hear faint movement from inside.
Nothing clear.
Just enough to know she was getting ready.
Good.
That meant she was coming out soon.
I straightened slightly when the footsteps drew closer.
The door opened.
I looked up immediately.
And there she was.
Dressed for training.
For a brief second, she looked like she wasn’t expecting to see me there.
Her brows pulled together slightly in surprise.
“You’re still here?”
She looked at me like that for a second longer, then her brows drew together slightly.
“I thought I told you to wait at the training ground.”
Right.
I nodded quickly, like it had just occurred to me.
“Oh–yes. I thought… maybe you were coming out soon, so I just stayed.”
It wasn’t the best excuse.
But it wasn’t too far off either.
She didn’t dwell on it.

Just gave a small shake of her head like it wasn’t worth the energy.
“Let’s go,” she said, already stepping past me.
I turned immediately, falling into step behind her.

The silence stretched between us as we moved through the corridor, out toward the open paths
leading to the training grounds.
“How are you feeling?”
The question slipped out before I could stop it.
The moment it left my mouth, I regretted it.
That sounded wrong.
Too pointed.
Too close to something I wasn’t supposed to be asking.
Like I was implying something was wrong with her.
Like I knew something.
My jaw tightened slightly as I watched her from behind, waiting.
She slowed just a fraction.
Then turned her head enough to look back at me.
The look she gave me-
“I’m fine,” she said simply.
Nothing more.
No explanation.
No room for anything else.
I nodded quickly.
“Of course.”
I looked away after that, my gaze shifting ahead.
That was unnecessary. I shouldn’t have asked that.
Not when I was supposed to be keeping things normal.
