I stepped outside without really planning to.

One moment, I was inside, trying to make sense of my own thoughts, and the next, I found myself standing at the edge of the doorway, blinking against the morning light.

“It’s not safe for someone like you to move around like that right now.”

It was just the truth as I understood it.

The world outside didn’t feel stable enough for anyone unsure of where they were going. A lone wolf is always an easy target… especially one who has no direction.

Roman exhaled slowly.

Then nodded once.

“I know.”

There was a pause.

Then he added, more carefully,

“I wasn’t planning to just drift. I just need to make up my mind.”

I studied him for a moment.

He looked like he had already been having the same conversation in his head long before I arrived.

“I have someone I want to find,” he said finally.
